Eldorado Celulose e Papel is a Brazilian company that is building the world's largest single-line pulp mill. After completion, planned for late 2012, the mill will have a capacity to produce 1.5 million tons a year of bleached pulp.
This output-the raw material for which will be wood from planted eucalyptus forests, which is a 100% renewable source - is to be exported to paper producing markets in South America, North America, Europe and Asia.
The estimated investment of US$3.1 billion involves the best available technology and project management focused on the sustainability of industrial and forestry processes.
The pulp produced from eucalyptus trees planted in Brazil is used in the production of several types of paper, from printing and writing to tissue, packaging and specialty papers. Asia is a very important paper producer in the world, having China as the main player.
The new Eldorado mill will be responsible for 20% of all Brazil's exports of woodpulp, with a total production of 1.5 million tons of pulp per year and revenue estimated at US$1 billion per year.
The company has a total area of 8.92 million m2, being 5.7 million m2 for the industrial area and 3.22 m2 as conservation area.
