Job Description

The Caterpillar Aftertreatment and Cooling Products-China (ACP-China) team is seeking an experienced engineer to lead a team of engineers responsible for developing a full engine cooling system including the following components:

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) coolers

Engine Oil coolers (EOC)

Air-to-water (ATW) charge air coolers

Water-to-water (WTW) heat exchangers

Thermostats

Water pumps

Qualifications

Required –

q BSc. in Mech. Eng (or related science or engineering degree e.g. Aerospace Eng, Physics, etc.)

q 5+ years industry work experience in engine development

q External candidates: Strong thermal science (fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer) background

q Internal candidates: CAT products and development processes experience (e.g. NPI, CPI, APQP, etc.)

q Excellent interpersonal, and verbal and written communication skills; Fluent in English and Chinese

q Strong customer focus

q Strong technical and analytical skills

Desired –

q MS or Phd in Mech. (or related science or engineering degree e.g. Vehicle Engineering, Aerospace Eng, Physics, etc.)

q Strong cooling component background

q Project management and engineering team leadership experience

q Knowledge of diesel engine and machine cooling systems

q Knowledge of cooling component or system validation procedures

q Working knowledge of Pro/E or performance or structural analysis software (e.g. KULI, Cool-1, Dynasty, Fluent, Abaqus, NASTRAN, etc.)

q 6 Sigma leadership experience

Responsibilities

Primary –

q Provide technical guidance to engine teams regarding cooling system development

q Establish and maintain system specifications including technical specifications, system schematics, etc.

q Develop and execute plans to achieve those specifications following the APQP/NPI guidelines. Use project management to manage the plan and report top-level status to product groups from launch to production

o Manage the design, analysis, and validation of system being developed

o Accountable for all project tasks

q Oversee development and execution of system FMEA and DVP&R

o May be shared responsibility with product group

q Develop application knowledge on assigned product groups

q Primary responsibility for all project communications

o Chair project reviews and distribute meeting minutes as needed

o Conduct peer technical reviews

o Conduct NPI GW reviews, and in between as needed, with ACP management and product group.

q Maintain and track project-level action items

q Maintain and track all cost information: project, part, tooling, and validation

q Promote and execute ACP component and system commonality strategy

q Manage the order, tracking, and delivery of prototype and pilot hardware

q Coordinate the collection of technical input for RFQs

Secondary –

q Develop and promote use of consistent tools and techniques for project management

q Train and mentor new and future project leaders

q Assist other project teams as an advisor; leverage technical and application expertise

q Work with other members of ACP to continuously improve the accuracy, efficiency, and capability of the cooling development processes
