Job Description:

As a Purchasing Supervisor for Caterpillar, you’ll contribute your leadership experience to a team of purchasing professionals to deliver local service excellence to customers. You’ll add value by delivering strategic improvements to year-over-year Quality Cost Logistics Delivery Management (QCLDM) performance, thereby creating an improved supplier base.

Managing a purchasing spend of generally less than $50M and a budget of generally less than $500K, you will own responsibility for implementing a specific strategy to support collaboration between category and site management supply strategies to create competitive advantages for our customers.

Further, you’ll use your technical and professional knowledge to drive supply chain collaboration, manage supplier tooling to support efficient capital expenditure, and improve performance across QLDCM initiatives, all while keeping the customer and Global Purchasing fully informed of progress.

You’ll also exercise your people management capabilities, leading your high-performing, multi-site team consisting of professionals such as Buyers, Supplier Development Engineers, Supplier Quality Engineers, and Purchasing Analysts. You’ll develop, mentor, recognize, and train these individuals in delivering the Global supplier strategy for your assigned category or site, while maintaining the higest ethical and professional standards within this diverse global organization.

Required Qualifications:

The successful candidate should be able to posses/demonstrate the following required selection criteria:

• An undergraduate degree or international equivalent from a college or university – or equivalent experience;
• Previous purchasing experience;
• Advanced negotiation skills; and
• Willingness to travel up to 50%-75% of work time as needed.

Desireable Qualifications:

The following criteria will be beneficial but not required:

• Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management, e.g.; Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.), Certified in Production and Inventory Management (CPIM), and/or Certified in Integration Resource Management (CIRM), or comparable international certification;
• Affiliation with Institute for Supply Management (ISM) and American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS), or comparable professional purchasing organization;
• Knowledge of quality, cost modelling, and NPI tools;and knowledge of lean manufacturing and lean principles.

The ideal candidate will also demonstrate strong communication skills and an ability to acquire an understanding of governmental, environmental, political, and geographic factors that influence a supply base.
