Responsibilities

· Assist in developing and implementing Wafer Fab foundry manufacturing strategy and business cost model

· Participate in identifying and qualifying foundries to meet Atmel’s Business strategic objectives

· Verify foundry capability and readiness for manufacturing Atmel’s products to meet product specifications and customer demands

· Ensure manufacturing quality, control and stability of selected foundries consistent with Atmel’s expectations. This includes ALL critical node parameters and die yields for all products.

· Ensure adherence of supplier to established manufacturing principles and ethic acceptable to Atmel.

· Help secure Atmel’s ownership of proprietary information.

· Manage product transfer projects to and /or from foundries

· Initiate project plans with schedule timeline and budget

· Prepare design packages

· Order and verify photo-mask reticles.

· Transfer and verify process and test recipes

· Initiate and analyze engineering lots

· Develop control plans, update FMEA’s and ensure process capabilities (Cpk of critical parameters are > 1.33)

· Ensure probe test programs are consistent with other Fabs and Quality acceptance tests are in place, as needed.

· Ensure that probe and assembly yield targets are achieved and develop improvement plans as needed with Atmel’s and Supplier’s groups.

· Initiate qual lots and verify reliability of transferred products matching parametric distributions of lots produced in point of origin

· Conduct change review meetings and complete CR documentation related to Atmel’s products run in Foundries.

· Coordinate customer notification requirements with Atmel US corporate quality group

· Release product for manufacturing and submit all product transfer documents to document control

· Approve all relevant process changes at Foundries that may impact Atmel’s products.

· In addition for New Product Introduction in foundry Fabs:

· Review and approve Design Review documents

· Validate tool capability and product manufacturability in selected foundry against design rules.

· Review Process Control Monitor (PCM) data and implement action plans, as needed.

· Actively involve in updating D-FMEA and P-FMEA and drive to make them live documents.

· Proactively manage foundry Fab loadings to meet Atmel’s weekly demands. This includes daily monitor of WIP movement and in process SPC data to insure quality and delivery commitment.

· Monitor cycle time and Performance-To-Schedule (PTS) to meet delivery objectives and issue corrective actions as needed

· Drive continuous improvement with supplier in quality, yield, cycle time and PTS on Atmel’s product lines at foundries.

· Ensure that yield improvement and control is achieved through disciplined use of statistical process control and design of experiments

· Monitor assembly yield losses related to Foundry wafers and initiate improvement actions

· Initiate and implement plans for long term reliability tests to ensure quality and stability of products and initiate corrective actions and improvement plans as needed

· Conduct annual quality audits in coordination with corporate quality group and follow-up with corrective actions

· Provide quick response to customer RDA quality issues, initiate 8D’s with suppliers to identify the failure mode root causes, and implement corrective actions to eliminate failure

· Ensure transfer of knowledge and lessons learned from other manufacturing sites to prevent reoccurring of failures and quality incidents

· Conduct annual customer satisfaction survey; define improvement opportunities with foundry supplier and implement plans for improvement

· Benchmark foundry operations and recommend best practice

· Seek and qualify alternative foundries to maintain continuity of supply and achievement of Atmel’s long term strategic objectives

· Establish key measurable for foundry operations and communicate results and key improvement activities to senior managers on regular basis and /or as requested

· Develop annual operational budget, monitor progress against objectives, develop improvement and recovery plans to meet or exceed targets

· Travel to foundry sites as necessary to support Atmel activities at foundry sites. Travel will be approximately 30%-70% of overall activities.

· Will be responsible for directing activities of non-reports from Atmel as well as the foundries.


Mandatory Skills

· Good people skills - listening, communication, mentoring, and negotiation.

· Problem solving skills - analyzing data, understanding risk, making decisions. Need to have the ability to effectively lead problem solving efforts that involve foundry personnel and Atmel personnel.

· Technical skills – Expert level knowledge in all areas of wafer fab processes to support <90nm processing.

· Multitasking - ability to drive priorities across several fronts simultaneously.

· Presentation skills - ability to present and communicate information to senior management.

· Must hold an engineering degree with at least 15 years experience.

· Demonstrated ability to work independently and follow through on long term projects

· Experience managing people

· LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups and employees.

· MATHEMATICAL SKILLS : Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, calculus, matrix manipulation and device physics. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions and analysis to practical situations. Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and principles of algebra. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, and correlation techniques. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, rings, quadratic and differential equations, and proofs of theorems.

· INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Ability to define problems/issues, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and apply principles of logical and scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to interpret/analyze a variety of problems, instructions and issues furnished in written, oral, diagram, or technical form. Ability to communicate internally and externally with all levels of an organization and to participate in problem solving/quality improvement activities. Ability to work independently.
