Job Description

Posts payments into PIMS when patients pay

Responsibilities

1. Communicates daily with the cashier from the shift before to be kept up to date of any changes in normal procedure;

2. Collects payment from uninsured patients at time of service;

3. Provides each patient with a copy of current statement at end of each visit and obtains patient’s signature on the original office copy;

4. Requests payment from patients according to their unique situation (checks notes in patient’s account);

5. Collects correct co-payment and deductible for patients whose insurers have direct billing contracts with TJU;

6. Obtains copy of insurance cards from patient and payment schedule from third party payers at time of first visit and whenever payment status changes;

7. Responsible for inpatient bills and double checks with doctors and nurses to make sure the entire bill is present;

8. Posts payments into PIMS when patients pay;

9. Has all insured patients fill out the correct claim form;

10. Is aware of the policies regarding cashiering such as when to have a patient pay a deposit;

11. Partakes in all departmental or hospital-wide training as needed.

Requirements

1. College education preferred

2. Good communication skills

3. Independent decision-making skills
