Job Description:

Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR) is a world leader in pharmaceutical research with a widely recognized culture for nurturing innovation and scientific excellence to address unmet medical needs.

China NIBR based in Shanghai is dedicated to the research and development of products addressing diseases prevalent to China, and providing innovation in the understanding and curing of Epigenetic causes of diseases.

The main responsibility of this role is to lead a group of bioinformaticians to partner with research scientists and IT professionals to develop novel scientific insights and progress that make impact in drug discovery.

In this partnership, the selected candidate will, as determined by the specific problem, either work directly with the research scientists, or lead a team of a multi-disciplinary and cross-cultural professionals, locally or globally, to identify, implement and/or apply the appropriate computational tools on internally and externally generated data in order to deliver the appropriate solution.

Furthermore, the selected candidate will be recognized as a resource in the Novartis scientific community for knowledge of existing and emerging informatics technologies from across academics communities and commercial enterprises.

The successful candidate will be someone who has deep knowledge in bioinformatics, and can effectively collaborate with scientists and IT professionals, openly share information and expertise, and maintain a professional network across the global organization for the purpose of delivering quick and sustainable solutions.

Minimum requirements:

? Excellent communication and leadership skills.

? Excellent managerial and operational skills, combined with strong customer focus.

? Comfortable working in a matrix organization and managing by influence.

? In-depth knowledge of drug discovery biology, informatics and IT solutions in the discovery and early-clinical space.

? Demonstrated ability in identifying, evaluating, and engaging external partnerships that can enhance our internal capabilities.

? Ph.D., or equivalent in a biology related discipline, including computational biology and bioinformatics.

? 10+ years of work experience in academic or industry settings.

? 5+ years of work experience in leading project and/or functional teams preferably in the pharmaceutical industry.

? Demonstrated proficiency in using and developing machine learning algorithms.

The ideal candidate will also have:

? State-of-art knowledge in cancer genomics or epigenomics, biomarker discovery and/or NGS technology.

? Demonstrated proficiency in one or more computer programming languages.

? Working experience with a broad range of laboratory techniques.

? Working experience in a global company.
