Responsibilities
Launch and Commercialize the mass-ABS in APAC to maximize ABS production in plant
- Identify, prioritize and get global and local buy-in to which high value customer segments to focus on, and at what price premium, based on which will most appreciate the high performances of our ABS products (as has happened in Europe over the last 15 years).
Prioritize those applications that appear to be most interested in Magnum?, i.e. Transportation, Electronics, Bathroom ware, Building and Construction
Position Magnum to:
- Higher end OEMs, compounders, and injection molders as a way to increase production efficiencies and costs savings through great product quality
- Higher end sheet extruders as a way to deliver “the peace of mind that they will deliver higher end, higher margin product every time” through superior aesthetics
Maximize the value and the premium of the mass technology
- Develop, maintain and expand our value in use tools for the products in their various applications. The team have done a good job of starting this work but it needs to be kept fresh and the MDL is the person being the owner for this work (obviously coordinating with TS&D and Commercial.
- Work alongside the Commercial team to explain the advantages of Magnum? versus existing competitive products, to each and every customer (existing and new) with the aim of creating trial
Branding and Marketing
- Use the Magnum? name supplemented with a Chinese name that it can be known in China
- Establish different grade names to distance Magnum? from exiting mass-ABS producers
- Develop a regional marketing plan, outlining which activities to prioritize
- Develop sales and marketing materials to support Magnum’s growth (including traditional advertising, online advertising, brochures, leaflets)
Owns the 5 year plan by application.
- The Market Development Leader (MDL) is in charge of establishing the 5 year plan for the different ABS application groups. The plan provides direction for the coming years: it describes the customers, the technologies/products and the specific sub-applications that the Market Development group will be looking at.
- The plan provides also a forecast as well as a consumption analysis of the application groups.
Co-owns the Technology/Product portfolio
- In co-ownership with the technical team, the MDL ensures that our mass ABS-products produced in plant are suitable for the APAC market and drives any new development which is needed for those markets.
  Leads the Market Development team and joins the APAC BMT
- Creates and develop a team spirit which favors innovation across applications, technologies and geographies.
- Set priorities for the team, thus ensuring that the local needs are accounted for.
Communicates
- Collaborates with the other regions for export purpose and capture growth opportunities in Europe and NAA.
- The directions given by the 5 year plans are fully and regularly quantified and presented. It is critical to keep the whole organization aware about successes and changes made through better/new understanding or different market dynamic using the available functional and business meeting (GLT, BMT, quarterly biz review)
- Publish a monthly dashboard.

Qualifications and skills
o Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Business. MBA is an additional benefit.
o Experience: (range of years and type of experience)
At least ten years work experience in commercial functions, such as Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Business Research, Application Development, or Technical Service is required with specific knowledge and experience in the plastic industry.
o Communication: (verbal, written, instructional etc. )
Ease of communication at different levels inside and outside of the company is a critical success factor. Multi-language capability is an asset. Multi-language capability is an asset. Chinese and English are essential.

o Motivates the project teams across the business (commercial, marketing, manufacturing and TS&D and R&D teams) to be highly flexible and to respond quickly and confidently.

o Identify and remove obstacles, which interfere with rapid creation of new business opportunities – Challenge status-quo, policies and procedures.
o Develops key industry relationships and understands critical performance requirements to promote success and create competitive advantage.
o Proactively identifies new areas for value creation and clearly defines them in the 5 year plan.
o Communicates “tirelessly” with the different stakeholders – BMT, Technical, Manufacturing and commercial teams to keep all involved in the fast moving activities.
