General Responsibilities:


The Softgood Designer – Asia leads and owns the design and development of softgoods across a range of products as directed by the Softgoods Design Manager. The Designer creates style and comfort aligned to the brand pillars with designs that drive company growth through consumer-preference and innovation. They work together with the US based Softgood Design team, Fashion, Industrial Design and both US and Asian Procurement teams to support the company’s direction and expectations for softgoods. They are responsible for form, fit, function and documentation for new products and enhancements to existing product. They are responsible for pattern fit, repeatability in production, design-to-cost and manufacturability. The Designer will use AutoCAD to make patterns and will interact with the Fashion team to calculate yields for costing exercises. The Designer will work with the China suppliers to obtain samples and development prototypes. Limited International travel is necessary.


Examples of Typical Activities:
？ Create design concepts and mock-up samples
？ Manage Asian suppliers making design concepts and mock-ups
？ Prepare bid packages for distribution to potential suppliers
？ Confirm quality of prototypes
？ Work with project teams to develop new product

Required Experience:
？ BS Textile Engineering, Fashion, Industrial Design or equivalent degree
？ 10 years successfully leading cross-cultural design and manufacturing teams

Required Technical Competencies:
？ Successful experience managing design expectations with manufacturing capabilities
？ Proven success encouraging, stimulating and leading Asian team to support Customer design expectations
？ Proven communication skills between Customer and Factory
？ Skilled negotiator challenging Asian manufacturer based on Customer’s requirements
？ Textile production - understanding multiple capabilities and materials
？ Sewing experience - both lightweight operations as well as automotive sewing
？ Working knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, AutoCAD and Gerber system
？ Detail driven to manage specifications and schedules for several simultaneous projects
？ Fluent and effective written and speaking technical
