Definition of Transit Packaging

• Client defines transit packaging as the packaging that encloses the retail packaging, also called secondary packaging. The main purpose for this packaging is to contain and protect the product. The most common materials used are corrugated and EPS foam. Client clarifies that this does not include pallets and packaging related to palletisation(e.g. slip sheet or plastic film), as this is considered as tertiary packaging

Transit Packaging Engineer - Key Responsibilities

• Interface with Infinite Sum team in North America and China, to provide technical support during the packaging guideline / specification development
• Work with the Infinite Sum team in China to audit vendors. Results from audit need to be understood and given back to North American team to help them develop packaging guidelines and vendor compliance process
• Interface with Infinite Sum team in North America to develop a technical training plan to ensure vendor is able to understand and start using the new packaging guidelines / specifications
• Interface with vendors to ensure shipping process is developed to prevent damage to packaging or product during loading and transport
• Provide expertise and assistance to vendor production and QA for optimum method of assembly for testing purposes and actual production run, including transit packaging assembly instructions
• Technical evaluation of transit packages covering standard tests in client test protocol (Examples include - basic shock testing, vibration testing) and the equipment
• Interpret and understand test results and provide support to vendor and Infinite Sum North American team when modifications are needed to packaging design. Perform real time value analysis to reduce corrugated requirements when possible
• Document and approve specifications for all newly developed shippers and transit packaging suppliers to vendor
• Work with vendors to develop test plans with the approved test labs in China
• Train new / existing Infinite Sum China employees on client project in basic transit packaging knowledge

Qualifications and Experience Required

• Bachelor's degree in packaging or other Bachelors degree acceptable when accompanied by relevant manufacturing / transit packaging experience
• Minimum 10 years experience in Manufacturing / Packaging, with minimum 3 years in transit packaging
• Good knowledge of computers and relevant 3D software required
• Fluent Mandarin
• Good knowledge of English (both written and spoken)
• Travel with China required, with period travel to India and Vietnam
