Senior Materials Research Engineer

Job Description:

Cricut has an immediate opportunity for an experienced high caliber Materials Research Engineer responsible for doing scientific analysis of material properties, testing and qualifying materials, working closely with the QA team, product management team and material suppliers. This position is responsible for scientific test development and completing/validating tests on materials for the next generation of Cricut Products (e.g. existing commercialized products, new product development, protocols, manufacturing, and/or system compliance).

Based in Shenzhen, you will be part of globally connected international research teams, and start your career as materials scientist within one of our research teams at Cricut in the US.

The qualified candidate will conduct research and product/process development for current and next generation of Cricut Products. Closely working with teams of engineers and scientists, he/she will investigate and implement innovative solutions to technical problems. Based on Polymer and Materials Science, Adhesives, Coatings and Ink chemistry, the candidate will investigate product failures and do root cause analysis. Candidate will use his/her knowledge of chemistry to evaluate product failures and create corrective action plans.

Qualification and Required Skills:

1. This position requires Master's degree or PhD in chemical engineering, polymer Science, materials science/engineering or equivalent.

2. 5+ years' experience in materials research and testing.

3.  Experiences in polyurethane, vinyl, pigments, dyes, adhesive systems for both solvent and water on plastic, paper and textile substrates.

4.  Experience with manufacturing process and methods used in the manufacturing of PVC, PP, PU, PET, pigmented systems, mixing, coating, and printing.

5.   Hands-on experience in lab analysis of coatings, inks, adhesives, and systems, as well as manufacturing pilot and scale up trials in multiple operational sites.

6.  Experience working in a test lab with strong knowledge of good laboratory practices & relevant research experience.

7.  Experience in reviewing material properties and requirements and proving feedback and recommendations

8.  Strong fundamentals in R&D methodologies and procedures.

9.  Must possess a very solid understanding of materials testing methodologies, ASTM/ISO standards and other international standards

10. Expertise in using scientific measurement equipment's for measuring,

• Peel force
• Adhesive force
• Release force
• Tear resistance/propagation
• UV test
• Thermal shock, transportation test, accelerated aging etc.

11.  Knowledge and experience in data processing, statistical analysis, and modeling tools.

12.  Position requires excellent problem-solving skills with high levels of motivation, initiative and energy.

13.  Capability of independently managing and delivering complex projects.

14.  Ability to clearly communicate findings through detailed written reports and excellent presentation skills

15.  Excellent communication skills as well as fluent in spoken and written English is mandatory.
