Job Summary
Plan, organize and control the strategic acquisition of material of a highly technical nature and/or custom commodities on a cross-functional team, using analytically formulated and comprehensive supply chain strategies. This individual will be responsible for providing applications engineering support for new programs. Work intimately with the Outside Sales personnel located in the United States and the China based Supply Chain, providing engineering and design support for key commodities.
The work involves design support, new product introduction, quality, product transitions, and insuring service levels are maintained. This position requires the continuous development of market and product knowledge.
Direct Responsibilities:
- Facilitate closure of new business by providing design and engineering support for any and all aspects of OEM programs as directed, including product design, process design, competitive analysis, quotations, NPI, production ramp, global sourcing of materials.
- Works with internal customers to ensure specifications and statements of work are appropriate, manages performance to project schedules and enforces the supplier obligation to meet such schedules for the tasks or products required.
- Manage continuous supplier improvement, regularly reevaluating quality and performance benchmarks, and the risks associated with the preferred supply base selection.
- Ability to implement engineering changes for new or changed products.
- Use systematic methods to evaluate supplier manufacturing processes to ensure only the highest quality product.
- Ability to identify, analyze and drive resolution for complex issues.
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of design standards such as ASTM, SAE customer specific standards.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering and/or an equivalent combination of training, certification(s) and experience
- 5+ years related experience
- Strong technical proficiency and understanding of specifications and engineering prints
- Minimum 5 years of experience developing and managing relationships with international manufacturers, suppliers and / or contractors
- Ability to influence without authority
- Bilingual (oral and written proficiency) - English and Mandarin Chinese
- Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration skills
- Must be a self-starter, accountable and innovative
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Needs to be proficient on CAD, Pro-E or other similar engineering software
- Strong computer skills including MS Outlook, Power Point, Excel, and Access
Preferred Qualifications:
- Background in implementing continuous improvement activities
- Strong management experience is a plus
- Asian sourcing and international business experience
- Experience on CAD, Pro-E or other similar engineering software
- AIAG PPAP format and content experience
