POSITION SUMMARY
The Supplier Quality Engineer will be accountable to the DQT Quality Manager for improving the performance to meet customer requirements (cost, quality, delivery, reliability) of the supply chain and developing the suppliers' quality assurance capability & processes.
You will be required to assess current and potential suppliers against agreed standards, advise on their capability and make recommendations on improvement actions required. You will improve the suppliers' processes and "cost of quality" reductions, assisting suppliers to attain the required accreditations. You will be required to monitor supplier performance and prioritize visits while working closely with DQT/CM quality and manufacturing departments to ensure synergies. You will evaluate potential new suppliers and support operations managers in selection of new suppliers. Support new programs up to source selection. Drive process and systemic quality improvements, at assigned suppliers, to eliminate variation, nonconformances and cost of poor quality.
This position is based in China (Shenzhen/Dongguan area)
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
? Drives process and systemic quality improvements, at assigned supplier sites, through the use of quality tools (SPC, Lean, Six Sigma) and validates improvements through defined measurables to element variation and non-conformances. Improve total cost effectiveness by improving supplier quality performance and therefore, reducing the cost of poor quality.
? To develop and improve supplies' quality assurance processes and compliance with ISO9001:2008 and ISO/TS16949:2009 and improve their environmental compliance to ISO14001:2004.
? To monitor supplier quality performance using the existing measuring system to prioritize effort on poor performing key suppliers using the Quality Management System to measure improvement. To review the existing measuring systems currently in use at Delta-Q, CM and critical suppliers and making appropriate improvement recommendations.
? To conduct supplier quality audits, using the existing system, identifying their capability and potential, making recommendation to reduce or eliminate low rated suppliers from the approved list.
? To conduct advanced product quality planning activities (APQP) in support of new products, or changes to products, introduced to the supply chain. To provide training to suppliers in APQP, as required.
? To ensure that suppliers comply with the production part approval process (PPAP) prior to first shipment of new or changed products.
? To perform FAI (First Article Inspections) for parts, assemblies, products, and processes related to engineering changes or first production run.
? Conducts quality risk assessments, in support of new sourcing, to determine if a supplier's quality system meets DQT's performance thresholds. To ensure that all quality and environmental requirements are clearly defined and actioned before Purchase contracts are awarded.
? To work with the buyer's to improve the performance of the supplier base identifying and implementing "value added" opportunities to reduce the suppliers' cost of poor quality.
? To identify the effect and savings accruing from improving supplier performance.
? Responsible for leading and facilitating Corrective Action Process at supplier base. Coordinate activities pertaining to customer complaints, and supplier rejections through structured problem solving, containment actions, facilitation of improvement plans, and verification of closure and effectiveness. Ensure communication to appropriate organizations.
? Supports error proofing and DFM in the design stage through design & manufacturability reviews held with Product Engineer and suppliers, prior to source selection.
? To provide support on quality or non-quality issues in the supply chain.
QUALIFIED CANDIDATES SHOULD POSSESS
A background in Engineering with experience in the quality function, preferably in an electronics and mechanical manufacturing company. Automotive experience an asset. The following criteria are also required:
? Significant experience as an SQE in companies employing lean manufacturing techniques
? PPAP Experience (in a Tier 1 or Tier 2 environment)
? QMS Auditor, 2nd party, utilizing ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001 also preferable
? Excellent communication skills (written and spoken) as well as the ability to communicate on all levels in the organisation in both Mandarin and English
? Proficient with Microsoft Office (current version)
? ERP/MRP experience preferable
? A minimum of three years experience in a mid volume electro/mechanical manufacturing environment
? System integration experience (electronics and mechanical)
? background in power supplies, inverters or other power electronics is an asset
? Experience in a team environment (with individual accomplishment)
? ASQ certification, CQE is an asset
? AIAG certification (APQP, PPAP, SPC, FMEA, MSA) is an asset
? Travel required (domestic and international) 50-75%
