Job Description & Responsibilities

Job Title: Product Development Engineer - China
Department: Product Development
Hours: 10:00am to 7:00pm
Reporting to: Product Development Manager - China

Salary: 8,000 – 10,000RMB per month depending on experience

The successful Product Development Engineer must have demonstrable experience of the product development process for electrical consumer goods. In particular, in-depth experience of Electronics development (PCB’s) as well as a high level of mechanical engineering knowledge and experience of consumer product certification. The Product Development Engineer will be someone who works well under pressure, is forward thinking and able to plan their daily workload effectively, and has a keen eye for detail during the development on new products.

1. Product Development Engineer

a. Support and assist in all areas of the product development process (reviewing prototypes and samples, checking all necessary component certificates are present & correct, reviewing CAD 3D Data, creating detailed engineering drawings for production, overseeing product approval).
b. Ensure all products have the necessary technical drawings & documentation to assist in mass production
c. Ensure that all products have the necessary Safety, EMC/EMF and Environmental certification for Europe, USA & where applicable Australia
d. Assist in the electronic development (PCB Design) of all new products. Review the PCB design and suitability for the intended purpose.
e. Conduct endurance and abnormal use tests of samples of new products (prior to product approval)
f. Advise and support PD Manager and PD Director with technical issue that may arise
g. Ensure that all product packaging adequately protects the product and meets the quality required
h. Work closely with the QA Department during the processing and manufacturing of trial orders
i. Maintain excellent working relations with our manufacturers and keep in close contact with their engineers during the development of new products.
j. Willing to travel regularly to suppliers in China as and when required (to assist with the new product development issues)

2. Internal Communication

a. Contribute to the ongoing development and monitoring of the company’s internal processes by highlighting and recording on the PD database any product technical issues
b. Making the whole PD team aware of any concerns regarding the design, quality or suitability of a product or component

Essential Skills & Qualifications

a. Good level of written English is essential (in addition, good level of spoken English would be an advantage)
b. 3+ years experience in a similar role, with day to day experience of electrical consumer products, it would be an advantage for the candidate to be familiar with lighting product or worked in the lighting company / factory.
c. Excellent mechanical engineering knowledge, High level knowledge of electronic (PCB) for consumer products will be good and advantage.
d. Experience in the field of tooling and plastic injection
e. Good 3D CAD skills (Solidworks preferred)
f. Proven knowledge and experience of mass production
g. Able to demonstrate good attention to detail and sound judgement
h. Confident and proactive, able to work under pressure and to deadlines

 THE ROLE
 
The Daylight Company’s China operations are a vital part of the business. All our products are manufactured or sourced in China, and we depend on a highly professional and well managed Division there. Most of the products we sell are designed by our New Product Development Department in London, and a smaller number of products are sourced. The business is dependent on excellent relationships with our suppliers, including maintaining and deepening partnerships with a small number of major suppliers. You will be assisted in managing projects in this role by the following reports: the Engineering Manager and his Engineer, as well as the QA Manager and his three Inspectors, all based in the Shenzhen office.
