Function of the Position

This position is responsible for the acquisition of documentary and reference standard materials from appropriate sources in China and greater China that will lead to public standards for articles of commerce in the foods, dietary supplements and pharmaceuticals areas. This incumbent is responsible for interacting with potential sources/companies, conducting top-level scientific review of the completeness and suitability of the data and reference material, and ultimately delivering a complete package to USP for development into a final standard.

Roles and Responsibilities:

· Identifies and develops key contacts in China and Greater China for acquiring monograph and reference material packages.

· Assists the source of a potential monograph with guidance related to USP processes and co-develops a monograph submission with the source, as needed.

· Delivers monograph materials to USP for further development by monograph liaisons, reference standard scientists, and associated Expert Committees.

· Issues regular reports to management and external sources as needed.

· Participates as member of Standards Acquisition Department

· Supports the Science and Standards Development team in the development process.

· Visits key sources and attends conferences to facilitate standards acquisition process.

Minimum Requirements:

· Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field with at least 3 years (Bachelor's degree requires at least 5 years) of industry experience, preferably in Technical Service or Analytical Method Development areas of food ingredients, excipients, dietary supplements, or pharmaceuticals. Applicants who have completed or are enrolled in an MBA program are desirable.

KSAs and Training and Experience:

· A background in analytical, organic, or medicinal chemistry and familiarity with analytical method validation are required.

· Excellent technical writing and oral communication skills required.

· Must be able to communicate effectively with both internal and external customers.

· Chinese national must be fluent in English in both writing and speaking.

· Analytical lab experience is preferred.

· Experience in food and/or dietary supplements is highly desirable.

· Knowledge of USP products and services desirable.

· Working knowledge of relevant computer applications, especially MS Word and MS Excel are required.

· Willingness to travel and visit customers and factories is required.
