I. Background Information
Position Title: General Assembly Manufacturing Engineer
Function/Department: Manufacturing Engineering, GM China
Location: Shanghai, China
Report to: ME manager, GM China
Required travel frequency: 60%

II. Purpose
- Support GA ME deliverables in China to ensure the goals of safety, quality, cost, investment, timing, etc of the
respective projects are achieved.
- Align and cascade knowledge to JV GA ME's to allow them to become more self sufficient as well as ensure a
successful SORP of the respective product grogram or project.
- Working closely with the JV Project teams, Global and Regional Manufacturing Engineering to develop a balanced,
integrated solution.

III. Areas of Responsibility
- Coordinate all related activities for plan, design, approval, project execution support and buy off of General
Assembly systems.
- Ensure completion of technical peer reviews on new projects or programs and implement scalable best of the best
ideas to improve quality, reduce cost, enhance operator safety, and meet timing.
- Foster innovative, lean solutions to ensure project is the "Best of the Best"
- Utilize technical peer reviews to enhance GAE performance for GM in China
- Interface/Coordinate all GA activities with other functional areas
- Serve as the GA expert for all technical matters during project development, execution and production start up
- Coordinate all training of operation technical personnel
- Link with the regional and global centers
- Implement a strong project/program control process, including management reviews.
- Implement appropriate Equipment strategies for low cost lean plants
- Serve as the GA expert, and together with IO or NA tech center resources if needed, for all technical matters GM JV come to ask for help.
- Continuously help JV to improve their performance in China, including safety, quality, cost, etc.
- Support GM new business development (the portion related to General Assembly)
- Support GM other businesses & activities (the portion related to General Assembly) in China

IV. Knowledge, Skills, Experience, and Competencies
Knowledge:
- Lean manufacturing and lean material flow
- Experience in process document systems and interface with Product Engineering.
- Understand the interface between General Assembly and IT/Quality/Supply chain
- Understand process and quality control in General Assembly shop
- Prefer new product development experience
- Axle assembly experience will be a plus
- Familiar with commercial vehicles manufacturing process will be a plus
- Familiar with hydraulic system will be a plus
- Axle assembly experience will be a plus
- Knowledge of SPS will be a plus.
- Knowledge of PFMEA will be a plus.
- Knowledge of RedX will be a plus.

Skills/ Competencies:
- Work independently and effectively with multi-cultures and JV environment and be able to work under pressure
- Proficiency in both complex project management and technical GAE skills.
- Demonstrated high level of interpersonal skills and ability to coach
/ mentor others to enhance skill set across GM China Operations
- Ability to organize, plan and prioritize work effectively with limited direction from supervisor
- Computer skills including competency in PC based office software (Lotus Notes, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project), AutoCAD, and any other relevant software
- Strong oral and written communication skills in both English and Chinese
- Familiar with UG, Catia will be a plus
- Familiar with GM technical standard or process will be a plus

Experience/Education:
- Bachelor degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial engineering, or automation)
- Minimum 4 years experience in General Assembly and production systems
- 8+ years experience in General Assembly and production systems will be a plus
- Experience of working in JV will be a plus
