KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Self starter and a team player with the ability to operate in a matrix organization
Practical, mature and value driven in their approach to Law
Excellent communication skills, both in English & Chinese (the latter is mandatory
Strong interpersonal skills, to be effective - both internally and externally
Bachelors Degree in Law (or equivalent) from a leading law school
Legal Qualification in China or developed country jurisdiction (e.g. U.S., UK(Essential
10 years or above of experience in a corporate legal set-up of an MNC or law firm of repute
BASIC FUNCTIONS
The candidate will be accountable for providing legal advice and support on a proactive as well as day to day basis to clients from General Motors China and its Joint Ventures
Proactively advising and counseling GM China and JV management with respect to compliance with all relevant Chinese laws and regulations and advising GM China or JV General Counsel as appropriate.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Analyze legal questions and work directly with client groups in China and identifying, analyzing, and initiating appropriate action on legal issues resulting from transaction and business practices.
Research laws and regulations
Provide oral and written legal advice to clients.
Prepare and negotiate commercial/financing/technology transfer contracts
Negotiate and draft all legal agreements, including those with joint venture partners and commercial contracts, land, building and housing leases, purchase agreements, distribution agreements, financing and loan documentation and other legal documentation relating to alliances and acquisitions.
Counseling on personnel and employment, labor and related issues.
Corporate secretarial responsibilities and related regulatory compliance and reporting in China.
Participate in legal due diligence
Handle litigation with outside counsel's help
Work with outside counsel and headquarter lawyers as a team to provide effective legal advice
