Role Description
Business Development Manager (BDM)
Definition
The BDM is responsible to the Director: Business Development for the scouting of new projects, follow-up with potential clients, ongoing maintenance of client relationships, and overseeing the preparation and submission of professional services proposals.

Main Duty
Promote and develop the Chapman Taylor (CT) business in Shanghai and throughout Mainland China in alignment with an agreed business development plan.
Specific Responsibilities
· Thoroughly learn the CT company profile, understand the business model, target sector markets and marketing approach.
· Maintain an ongoing knowledge of current and previous CT local and global projects.
· Develop and establish new business leads and opportunities, and secure new work by writing, implementing and following a Director agreed business development plan.
· Update the business development plan on a regular basis to allow for changes in market conditions, and report any changes to Director’s.
· Manage and coordinate overall business development activities to generate new business interest.
· Express and impress existing and potential clients in regards to CT’s professionalism, skills and expertise.
· Report to office Director’s on a bi-weekly basis regarding business development activities, potential project and market exposure opportunities.
· Make recommendations to Director’s in regards to potential projects and project opportunities.
· Search public sources such as websites, journals, and newspaper to obtain leads and opportunities for government tendering for major projects.
· Develop and maintain a network of contacts with developers, design institutes and other business professionals to pursue and generate new work.
· Support business development through bilingual communication by helping to translate presentations given in English.
· Support senior English speaking staff by helping them to integrate and communicate successfully with potential clients.
· Review potential project opportunities for suitability and appropriateness for CT to pursue.
· Maintain a register of client contacts, and submissions and actively follow up results.
· Coordinate with CT’s marketing personnel at both a regional and global level.
· Represent Senior CT staff to promote their professional exposure within the market place.

· Understand international design practice management systems and procedures.

· Excellent professional communication in Chinese and English.
· Able to delegate and work with dedicated graphic and marketing staff.
· Positive and collaborative attitude.
· Team player with excellent inter personal skills.
