Position Summary
The Pre-award manager is a member of the research management team and will be responsible for the pre-award activities at NYU Shanghai. S/he will communicate closely with various funding agencies externally, and academic units and faculty internally to develop sponsored research of the University. The Pre-award Manager will report to the Provost and work with the leadership closely.
Responsibilities
Proposal Submission and Review
? Assist faculty in identifying possible funding opportunities.
? Contribute to strategic and tactical discussions regarding sponsored programs.
? Give guidance regarding proposals and awards development.
? Review proposals and contracts for accuracy and conformance with sponsor guidelines.
? Sign off documentations as approval in the pre-award administration and seek appropriate internal approvals when necessary.
? Provide a smooth transition into the contracting and post-award portion of grant administration.
External Communication and Collaboration
? Represent NYU Shanghai as appropriate at external meetings and conferences.
? Develop a network of contacts and promote the research interest of the University to funding agencies.
? Prepare reports and related communications on research programs, activities and initiatives of the university to both internal academic units and external agencies as required.
? Maintain a keen awareness of government policies and regulations.
Research Administration and Regulatory
? Contribute to the further development of internal systems/procedures to enhance funded research at the university, provide training to researchers on the grant process.
? Assist the Director with planning and introduction of new initiatives to stimulate research at the university.
? Other tasks as assigned.
Qualification
? Required Education
Master’s degree or above in disciplines related to science, engineering or mathematics.
? Required Experience
? 5-7 years of experience directly related to grants administration, preferably with increasing levels of responsibility at Chinese higher education institutes.
? Prior experience/ assignments/ internship at funding agencies preferred.
? Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
? Knowledge of major funding agencies and programs, especially China & US.
? Considerable knowledge of the pre-award function.
? Capability in English and Chinese language, especially excellent presentation skills in Chinese.
? Excellent analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
? Be highly proactive, ability to think creatively, work cooperatively and productively in a groundbreaking organization with faculty and administration.
