Job description D&T Department Manager Schoeller Allibert China
China Development & Technology Department Manager
Reporting to Regional D&T Director and working closely with the General Manager, Sales Directors, our production, and the D&T team (currently 4.5 persons) of the China office. The main responsibility is to manage the D&T department to fulfill the needs of the local sales team, the market and the regional requests. The D&T Department Manager will focus on servicing these requests with highly qualified application and product development resources in a timely manner. Additionally the D&T Manager will support, follow-up on and secure qualified products and services from SA’s own production, sub-contractors and suppliers.
Core Function
? The D&T department manager has the direct responsibility for the technical capabilities of the company and to provide highly qualified application and product development of materials handling products and solutions
? The D&T department manager has the responsibility to develop and maintain an organization with the necessary resources to fulfil the technical and application needs of the customers and the company
In general the main tasks are:
? To establish, develop and maintain a high service level towards the rest of the organization, customers and suppliers,
? To coordinate and prioritize the tasks in the D&T department to in the best possible way utilize available resources,
? To be technically responsible for products and moulds,
? To appoint and organize an efficient and creative D&T staff, set clear individual targets, roles and responsibilities, follow-up progress in tasks and projects on regular basis
? To train, develop and inspire the D&T staff to improve product and application knowledge
? To challenge and inspire the D&T staff to creative thinking; stay updated on technologic developments related to our business
? To drive customer projects – new development alt. adjustments of existing products/solutions
? To actively participate in customer meetings together with Sales
? To proactively work with Production to avoid QA issues and disruptions in production; additionally provide for products that are suitable for production
? To establish a regional test centre with capabilities to test and evaluate our, and our competitors’ products
? To stay updated on standards and regulations related to the fields of application
? To file for and manage our local patents in coordination with the regional D&T Director and central IP department
? To manage the department within the cost budget
? To keep updated on technologies of the industry, relevant suppliers, logistics solutions, technical services, market conditions, competitor activities.
? To coordinates with and keep in contact with other technical departments within the SA group.
Qualifications:
- University degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Chemical) at least a Bachelor but preferably a Master degree – can be compensated by relevant working experience
- Minimum of 5 years managerial position from a development department in an “international” environment
- Strong and proven track record of product and solution development in an industrial environment
- Strong solution provider drive, and not only products but also services – end-to-end thinking
- Strong leader, team worker and internal networking
- A clear insight to and understanding for designing in plastics for injection moulding and vacuum forming primarily
- Commercial sense, a clear focus on reduction of total cost for the customer
- An well-developed understanding for and an interest in logistics, internal as well as external
- Excellent communication skills, proactive attitude, clear thinking & pleasant personality
- Mature, responsible, organized
- Excellent command of English both spoken and written is essential
- Be business minded with high integrity and honesty
- Good computer skills, experience in using MS office (Words/Excel/Internet), CAD (preferably Solid Edge, NX, or Creo), FEA software
