General Responsibilities:

· The Mechanical Product Engineer will demonstrate effective creativity and innovation that leads to the full liaison responsibility between Product Development and Manufacturing. The Mechanical Product Engineer is responsible for:

？ Supporting the design and development of test equipment for manufacturing needs on new, improved and existing products.

？ Performing engineering assignments related to sustaining, tailoring and enhancing assigned products.

？ Analyzing and solving complex engineering problems to meet product requirements.

· This Product Engineering position requires emphasis in Mechanical Engineering design, with responsibility for developing complex designs supporting existing products as well as new product development; recommending sound manufacturing methods, complete assembly and detail documentation; and designing fixtures to aid in product assembly. Given discretionary work guidelines, and applying initiative, judgment and ingenuity, the Mechanical Product Engineer is responsible for the generation, review and delivery of all mechanical documentation needed for existing product updates as well as new product development.

Specific Responsibilities:

· Works with other Engineering personnel to create and develop test equipment and mechanical engineering designs for new and existing products

· Works with other Engineering personnel to create and develop fixtures and tooling for new and existing products

· Works with Quality and Documentation personnel to establish proper regulatory and quality documentation procedures

· Works with Manufacturing Engineering personnel on production problems and changes.

· Works with Manufacturing personnel on technical problems and changes related to released and new products

· Provides technical support to Manufacturing during the fabrication, assembly, and testing of assigned GP products

· Analyzes, develops and recommends design approaches necessary to meet production requirements for new and existing products and processes

· Designs product solutions that meet intent, cost target, reliability and manufacturing requirements on time.

· Provides in-depth failure analysis of nonconforming or failed product

· Develops, qualifies and implements effective corrective actions associated with product in-house tests or field failures.

· Reviews and approves drawings and specifications prepared by technical support personnel.

· Defines, plans and directs laboratory tests efforts associated with the evaluation of alternate material sources, product improvement or cost reduction redesigns

· Prepares detailed test procedures and comprehensive engineering test summary reports.

· Identifies, investigates and provides technical validation for material suppliers and component designs.

· Performs engineering measurements and analysis.

· Contributes to Engineering plans for new or improved products.

· Participates in the Product Development and Introduction process by providing technical liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing (Concurrent Engineering).

· Supervises and prepares tasks for assigned support personnel as required.

· Provides written reports and engineering documentation to support successful completion of Engineering Change Orders.

· Assures compliance with Standard Procedures and policies.

· Participates in team decision-making.

· Contributes to the development and continuous improvement of team problem solving and communications skills.

· Demonstrates skill in the use and care of all tools and equipment.

· Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of Good Manufacturing Practices and all other applicable standards.

· Ensures timely implementation of regulatory agency compliance requirements and standards.

· Develops and writes Engineering test protocols for testing of component parts and integrated systems.

· Develops and writes specifications for components, systems and products.

· Prepares progress reports and completion summaries on assigned projects.

· Maintains a clean, safe, and orderly work area.

· Follows all safety procedures.

· Performs other duties and responsibilities as required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

· Knowledge of Engineering Change Order and Product Data Management systems

· Knowledge of engineering documentation requirements

· Proficient in use of engineering CAD tools for the design and documentation of products

· Proficient in use of 3-D solid model tools and modeling/analysis of environmental and mechanical parameters in designs

· Knowledge of engineering test protocols

· Knowledge of Concurrent Engineering

· Knowledge of Product Concept Evaluation Protocol

· Knowledge of Engineering Laboratory and Machine Shop procedures

· Knowledge and skill in use of machining and forming tools

· Skills in personal computer spreadsheet, word processor and engineering tools

· Ability to carry out engineering calculations and analysis

· Ability to write engineering documents, test protocols, laboratory notebook entries and reports

· Ability to perform component engineering design and changes

· Ability to operate laboratory instruments

· Ability to interpret displayed results on laboratory instruments

· Required: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline

· Preferred: Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field. Specialized training and experience in the use and application of materials in ultra-high vacuum systems

· Minimum of five years in engineering practice including project development responsibility
