职位描述

Purpose of the Role:
· Lead and develop R&D product development processes and projects from concept to commercialization to deliver timely, viable and profitable products in support of customer and company strategies.
· Guide and direct core product improvement efforts, focusing on both resolution of product issues and ongoing continuous product improvement.
· Deliver financial results (margin enhancement, cost savings, top line revenue, share gain) through product, packaging, and process development and optimization, innovation, platform expansion and breakthrough technologies.
· Establish/drive into actionable execution the Regional R&D strategy, systems, staff, standards, policies and development stage-gate processes aligned with Global R&D and Regional Leadership Team.
· Staff and develop top-performing R&D talent within the region, sharing best practices from and with other regions. Assign/allocate resources to optimize regional ROI for company.
· Serve on the Regional Leadership Team, participate as a key member to develop regional strategies, to drive profitable, judicious business decisions, mitigating risks through contingency planning, identifying business opportunities and driving execution of strategies successfully throughout the organization.
Scope:
· Role Level: 4 - Regional Leadership
· Number of Direct Reports: Regional R&D Staff (3-7)
· Impact: Region- wide
· Interfaces: All regional functions, external customers/vendors, global R&D team, other region R&D teams.

Reports To: EVP, Global R&D (Serves the Regional EVP and Leadership Team)

Skill/Experience Requirements:

· 8-10 years of research and development experience in foodservice industry, specializing in bakery and/or dough product categories.
· Bachelor chemical engineering degree. MS or PhD in Food Science preferred in addition.
· Demonstrated knowledge/expertise re: flour-based products, ingredient functionality food processing equipment, new product development and core product improvement processes.
· Director level experience in an organization.
· Demonstrated ability to refine strategy and translate into executional steps for R&D.
· Success in delivering profitable results through an R&D organization.
· Demonstrated ability to surmount hurdles to project advancement and profitability.
· Multi-disciplinary experience in customer / supplier relationships, quality assurance, operations, & overall business acumen. Demonstrated ability in driving strategic execution through to profitable fruition.
· Demonstrated ability to work with other functions. Ability to assess business and operational issues in all parts of the production cycle, and provide thoughtful, effective solutions.
· Demonstrated skills in leadership, collaborative style with a focus on performance and management by objectives. Proven track record in driving performance within a team.
· Strong and confident decision-maker who is capable and has the experience to make tough business decisions.
· Understands and has proven track record of pursuing statistically sound and data-based technical decisions.
· Experience at identifying need for and establishing profitable use of outside consultants/partners and develop opportunities.
· Extensive regional (and some global) travel required.

Key Job Responsibilities:
· Regionally leads and develops R&D product development processes and projects from concept to commercialization to deliver timely, viable and profitable products in support of customer and company strategies.
· Regionally guides and directs core product improvement efforts, focusing on both resolution of product issues and ongoing continuous product improvement.
· Delivers financial results (margin enhancement, cost savings, top line revenue, share gain) through product, packaging, and process development and optimization, innovation, platform expansion and breakthrough technologies.
· Translates global strategy into Regional action and results. Establishes and drives into actionable execution the Regional R&D strategy, systems, staff, standards, policies and development stage-gate processes aligned with Global R&D and Regional Leadership Team.
· Staffs and develops top-performing R&D talent within the region, sharing best practices from and with other regions. Assign/allocate resources to optimize regional ROI for company.
· Defines regional strategies and initiatives and develops processes to manage a rolling 3-5 year project portfolio and pipeline. Develops systems to assess progress, manage risk, and prioritize project portfolio.
· Implements leading and lagging performance metrics for R&D within the region (aligned with Global R&D practices) and ensures they serve to drive financial results- both long and short-term.
· Supports regional operations to optimize capacity, significantly increase RONA (return on net assets), and resolve technically scientifically complex issues in an advisory capacity to Operations when a fully developed strategic business case and complete resolution history accompany a request from Operations
· Evaluates and recommends based on data and strategic planning make-versus-buy options for new products and processes.
· Establishes regional R&D priorities for resolution of product issues and ongoing continuous product and process improvement.
· Ensures that R&D efforts are efficient/effective and profitable in support of customer and company strategies.
· Manages Regional R&D budget and establish/deliver ROI targets
· Keeps informed of emerging technologies and marketing trends to deliver innovation.
· Works collaboratively across international and U.S.-based operations to ensure:
· Optimizes East Balt’s resources
· Shares best practices
· Drives “One East Balt” approach within the Region and supports efforts to define and unify to best practices across the regions.

Regional Leadership Team
· Serves on the Regional Leadership Team and participates fully in business decision-making, business unit strategy development and day to day business management.
· Works in collaboration with region’s Customer Relationship leader to address customer issues and enhance regional customer relationships.
· Works effectively with other leadership team members to leverage cross-functional opportunities, and to ensure cohesive communication and consistency in both strategy and execution.
· Works collaboratively with Regional LT to strengthen and expand East Balt’s business, relationships with customers, create capacity, enhance margins, build organizational effectiveness and enhance the regional culture and influence a culture of engagement and accountability.
