Responsibilities and Scope:
The VAVE Engineer is responsible for reducing direct material cost, improving instrument functionality and instrument quality through VAVE and supplier change projects. They will lead projects by pulling together drawing, specification packages and managing test/validation plans. Moreover, they will analyze and recommend future projects that will result in improved instrument cost, performance and quality. The candidate will work effectively with a cross-functional/global staff and supply base. This position provides an opportunity to develop new processes across a highly technical organization.
The position reports to the Global Sourcing Manager, located in Shanghai, China with a strong dotted-line to the Salzburg Engineering Director. Position to be based in the Molecular Devices, Shanghai, China office, supporting the US and China Global Sourcing Teams. Local and International travel up to 25%.
Objectives:
？ Reduce direct material spend by $2M annually, +4%.
？ Support the on-time delivery of new products in line with revenue growth objectives.
？ Create and execute project plans on-time, on-budget in line with business objectives.
？ Accurately plan project resources, timing and investment.
？ Enlist resources to drive projects in line with skills required (e.g. Electrical/Mechanical/Optical etc).
？ Generate and update test plans to prove out production changes before cut in.
？ Update designs, drawings, engineering data and engineering releases as needed.
？ Build straightforward cost summaries to justify efforts.
？ Drive process changes within engineering spec’s and use cases to improve effectiveness of future VAVE and supplier change processes.
？ Update designs in engineering database e.g. CAD, ECAD, Firmware etc.
？ Ensure year-over-year improvement in instrument quality
？ Work directly and communicate regularly with international suppliers in Asia, Europe and the US.
Qualifications:
？ BS in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (or similar).
？ 5+ years of engineering, systems or VAVE design experience.
？ Experience in lean manufacturing/continuous improvement methods desirable.
？ Awareness of optics, electrical circuit boards, plastics, sheet metal and mechanical parts.
