Country Manager – Procurement

Job Context
IDA Foundation is the world’s leading not-for-profit supplier of essential, quality-assured medicines and medical supplies to low- and medium-income countries. We distribute over 3000 different medicines and medical supplies to over 100 countries. Quality, performance and reliability at competitive prices are the keys to our success. In 2013, IDA Foundation had a total

combined turnover exceeding $300 million.

Headquartered in Amsterdam (The Netherlands), we are a global organization. We have offices in India, China, Nigeria and the US, as well as representative agents in over 40 countries. Out of a total of 180 employees, our Procurement team consists of around 40 people and is located in Mumbai. The Procurement team is constantly searching for the most competitive sources to supply to our customers.
We have approximately 250 active suppliers, of which 20 we consider strategic with whom we build partnerships at a high level. Currently, 60 – 70 % of our purchases are done from India but we are expanding our procurement activities in China given the increase in generic pharmaceutical companies that are reaching an acceptable level of quality.
To reach our strategic objectives in this respect, we are looking for a Country Manager– Procurement based in China (preferably Shanghai/Beijing region) reporting to the Procurement Manager. We are looking for an ambitious, entrepreneurial, and self driven manager with commercial flair interested to work for an international organization with a mission.
This person will initially be working alone, with the potential to subsequently build and manage a team.

General Tasks and Responsibilities
1.Pro active vendor base development, product sourcing and business development
2.Reporting on market trends – API pricing, formulation pricing, new products developed by suppliers and any other relevant information from the Chinese (generic pharmaceutical) industry
3.Recommendations for cost reductions
4.Active contribution to price negotiations for tenders and wholesale procurements
5.Assist in product documentation for registrations
6.Competitor analysis and feedback
7.Supplier Relationship Management
8.Troubleshooting for procurement and supply chain matters and issues

Competences required
1.Extensive Market knowledge of Chinese Pharma industry.
2.Pro-active attitude, self driven, independent and result oriented.
3.Excellent written and oral communication skills
4.Supply chain knowledge
5.General knowledge of (C)GMP, WHO, USFDA requirements for pharmaceutical plants
6.At least 6 years of relevant working experience
7.Relevant University degree
8.Knowledge of Medical Supplies is an asset
