JOB TITLE: Financial Controller, China R&D

REPORTS TO: R&D Controller, Asia

SUPERVISES: China R&D Finance Team

SUMMARY

The Financial Controller guides and manages the overall provision of Finance services, policies, and programs for the R&D organization. This individual originates and leads Finance practices and objectives that will ensure the superior financial performance of the organization. The Financial Controller also coordinates implementation of services, policies, and programs through the Finance staff and serves on the China R&D leadership team; assists and advises internal managers about Finance issues.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Oversees all financial operations and directs financial planning in accordance with established policies

· Coordinates, analyzes, and reports the financial performance to internal management (financial performance, projections and other special projects as required)

· Prepares short and long-term financial forecasts of financial performance for use with internal management; ensures timely and accurate record keeping

· Coordinates audit / tax functions and related activities with audit firms as assigned

· Implements and drives continuous improvements in designated area

· Implements and maintains Covidien accounting and administrative policies and procedures for a wide-ranging set of activities including financial accounting and reporting, employee relations (hiring/terminating policies), payroll, accounts payable / receivable, travel, expense reporting, and related corporate policies

· Proficiency in all aspects of corporate accounting and U.S. GAAP

· Proficiency in local China accounting regulations and related regulatory requirements

· Conducts financial review of contracts and obtains appropriate legal reviews where needed

· Sets financial targets and drives management team to achieve organizational objectives

· Working with HR management, hires and builds a high-performance finance team; participates in the creation of finance-specific training programs and retention policies as appropriate

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

Active member of the China R&D leadership team; works closely with all department managers; works closely with Asia Finance leadership including regional and corporate COEs where needed; is the primary contact for China R&D within the finance organization.

EXPERIENCE

· 8 - 10 years post qualification experience in a finance leadership position with a multi-national corporation

· 4 years minimum experience managing local China accounting and tax regulations

· Working knowledge of local China legal and IT processes preferred

· Prior experience in an R&D or medical devices organization preferred

· Demonstrated success managing a finance organization; start-up experience preferred

· Demonstrated experience reporting financial performance to Executive Management
