The EM R&D strategy includes four of Covidien’s Global Business Units – Surgical Devices, Vascular Therapies, Energy-based Devices and Respiratory & Monitoring Solutions. Those businesses account for more than 65 percent of Covidien’s revenues.

Summary:
This Senior Software Engineer will take software development and test responsibilities for new medical products to ensure entity’s time-to-market, development cost, ease-of-use maintainability and reliability objectives are met.


Principal Accountabilities:
· Understands and contributes to product specification
· Create the software design documentation and coding, and carry out its implementation to meet product requirements.
· Plan and conduct unit testing, functional testing, performance testing, and stress testing of software to ensure high quality of software/firmware.
· Design the software downloading, upgrading, and testing tools to meet the requirements of manufacturing, testing, and upgrading requirements from internal and external customers.
· Contributes to approach, design, implementation of tests for product components
· Performs test specification, maintenance, execution, analysis, and code reviews for assigned features
· Participates the risk analysis of product
· Maintains defect tracking and test documentation
· Review user manuals and support documentation of the product
· Trouble-shoot code individually or in a group, provide written and verbal assessments of test results
· Contribute to facilitate the quality assurance test approach
· Work closely with the product development manager, hardware engineers and/or mechanical engineer, in resolving technical issues arise. Be creative in finding cost effective and innovative solutions in the product development process.
Major Challenges:
· Multi-site development requires excellent coordination and communication skills
· Aggressive development schedule for time-to-market and extremely demanding cost goals
· Adhering to the quality system’s product development process controls to ensure high quality products, given schedule pressure mentioned above.


Job Qualification:
· BS degree in Computer Science, Computer/Biomedical Engineering or a related discipline
· 10+ years of C++ & OOP hands-on experience in Real Time Embedded systems environment (preferably one with knowledge on multiple layers of the Software)
· Excellent skills in the application software design, know well on GUI design and communication application, also the database development
· Problem solving and analytical skills.
· Disciplined in software development and verification methodologies.
· High quality standard and attention to details.
· Excellent skills in verbal and written English communication.
· Knowledge sharing and strong team work.
· Proactive and highly self-motivated.


Desired:
· good experience in the driver design and communication device development (USB, LAN, 3G…)
· Hands on design experience in the following areas:
o OpenGL/GDI experience
o PCAP touch interface experience
o OMAP/DM373x graphics acceleration
o working within a version control system/common library
