Position Description:
The position will primarily involve supervising the activities of the S&PC group in the Shanghai Office and coordinating with the PDG group within the office. May be dedicated to a large project in a lead role on occasions.
In charge of a S&PC team involving Senior S&PC Engineers and Junior S&PC support engineers and designers assigned to various projects. Role interfaces with other project discipline leads (process, piping, mechanical, civil, structural, marine etc)
Responsibilities include client interface, proposals, estimates, S&PC team development including mentoring and training, recruiting and project S&PC manning.
Quality management and Safety in Design are part of the role. Safety in Design includes HAZOP, CHAZOP and SIL study participation.
The S&PC group technical areas cover P&ID development, field instruments and final control elements, ICT networks, Wiring and Bus systems, Plant control Systems, Safety Instrumented Systems , Manufacturing Execution Systems and integration into the Enterprise Reporting Systems.
On projects the S&PC scope may include SOW, change management, manning, planning and scheduling, deliverables control, timesheet approvals, progress reporting, supply and installation contract administration, construction administration and commissioning.
Design is based on a central database linked to both the 3D model and intelligent P&IDs. Detail design will be done in either Microstation or Autocad and may also utilise database-linked tools such Intergraph SPIN (Intools).
Layout design and hazard analysis is done in a 3D model environment.
Supervision Received:
Works with office PDG engineering manager and BU leads re proposals, manning, general office administration requirements.
Interfaces to Brisbane hub S&PC lead on a regular basis for conformity to S&PC group objectives and standards. Link to Global S&PC director via hub.
Receives technical engineering support by specialists for technically complex S&PC engineering problems. Has supervisory approval on proposed local office or project S&PC standards.

Technical knowledge of Control systems and instrument wiring systems, competent use of CAD designers, and familiarity with Microsoft range of standard computer software.
A broad knowledge of principles and practices of control and instrument and electrical wiring design and related technical areas. A current knowledge of industry or regulatory standards pertinent to the control engineering discipline.
Large project experience.
Skill in oral and written communications, and CAD drawing presentation.
Familiar with design and programming of one or more of the major vendor control system DCS or PLC packages and associated SCADA systems.
Selection Criteria
10 years minimum of design experience with engineering contracting or consultancy organisations in the oil & gas or mining/resource development or minerals processing industry.
Displays a willingness to take on further responsibilities and/or involvement in continuous improvement.
Safety in design experience
Control System development experience and certificates from accredited training courses
Recognised degree from an accredited University or TAFE plus sufficient number of specialised courses in S&PC area to meet job requirements plus background of practical work experience in S&PC design to demonstrate competence.
Good working knowledge of Chinese and/or International standards
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Good general computer literacy with Microsoft products.
Enthusiasm, confidence and determination.
English and Chinese Language skills - written and spoken
Desirable:
2D & 3D CAD design Experience
Construction / commissioning site experience
Database experience eg Access
Experience with smart P&IDs, automated database design tools eg Intools
Special Conditions of Assignment:
Shanghai based.
Occasional short term assignments to Chinese regional
centres for project setup or assistance. Occasional visits to Australia or other overseas country.
