Job Summary

The Sales Manager is a first line sales manager, responsible for building and leading a high performance team selling price and forecast data and subscriptions across a broad geographic set of clients in Asia. The Sales Manager is also responsible for directly managing his/her own portfolio of accounts. The product set includes subscription and licensing offerings, target industry studies and consulting engagements to clients who are producers of and suppliers to the forest products industry, buyers of paper / packaging / lumber based products, and financial market firms who follow the industry. The Sales Manager will spend approximately 60% of their time managing his/her accounts and the other 40% of time-spent leading the team. The position also requires approximately 15-20% of time to be spent traveling to meet customers.  


Principle Accountabilities

  • Build and manage a high performing sales team focused on selling B2B price data and content subscriptions across an China and Asia
  • Manage a team of 3-6 sales representatives (in an inside / outside sales model) with a total quota of $3-4M in subscription renewals and new business, inclusive of a personal quota of c. $1.5m
  • Create and execute a strategic plan, inclusive of campaigns, to grow sales revenue from a base book of business, in new and existing markets within assigned territory to position Fastmarkets RISI as a strategic resources to customers
  • Lead Fastmarkets RISI’s transition in Asia from selling subscriptions to selling licenses to our data.
  • Recruit, develop and mentor sales representatives to gain subject matter expertise in our offerings to ensure they build value propositions to address client needs
  • Support the sales teams objectives through one on one coaching, including client call participation
  • Build and execute a sales management operational rhythm, using Salesforce, to develop and progress sufficient sales pipeline to achieve subscription targets comprised of renewals, enrichment and new business prospecting
  • Build an executable strategy for non-recurring study and consulting engagement revenuerequ across existing client & prospects
  • Develop and maintain key relationships with specific clients
  • Build and maintain a collaborative culture that inspires a sense of urgency, constant innovation and learning, and a strong sense of individual and team accountability
  • Work cross functionally within the company to communicate with all stakeholders to ensure customer success.
  • Partner with Asia colleagues in Fastmarkets Metals to drive alignment and scale within the region


Knowledge and Skills Required

  • Demonstrable ability to deliver results in target-based inside / outside sales environment hitting sales targets on a monthly / quarterly / annual basis
  • Strong analytical and numerical skills.
  • Motivational coach and mentor, with the capability to build positive and productive working relationships both within the team and across the sales organization
  • Proven thought leadership and strategy capabilities
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, on the phone and digitally
  • Experience in selling value added business intelligence offerings to domestic and international clients, mainly in Asia 
  • A passion for learning new industries and curiosity about the Pulp and Paper industry and our clients.
  • Ability to travel
  • Ability to work with international cross functional teams internally and externally
  • Excellent fluency in English and Chinese
  • A bachelor’s degree or equivalent


Desired Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years sales experience in a fast paced, highly competitive sales environment
  • Minimum of 2 years of sales manager experience, including recruiting, training, coaching and delivering results through others
  • Proven sales success and track record in a senior account management role building and managing a $2M+ Book of Business
  • Experience selling B2B information services or commodity pricing data
  • Market Research sales or experience selling a recurring contract [SAAS] is a plus.
  • Salesforce or similar CRM system experience.
