Duties & Responsibilities
An Early Years Assistant Teacher at Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi is an exciting role, with shared responsibility for supporting an inspirational Early Years’ curriculum, and exhibiting high standards of teaching and learning. This person, alongside the class teacher and Dual Language Teacher, will be responsible for supporting children’s achievement and wellbeing, and engaging positively and proactively in initiatives that support children’s outcomes. They will be an ambassador for excellence, and will play a key role in the future direction of the Early Years Department within the Primary School. As a pioneer of Early Childhood Development in the Early Years, you will reflect constantly on your own practice to ensure a high quality education for all children. You will be a model of excellence, and support colleagues generously to perform to the best of their ability. You will uphold the school values, and put children’s wellbeing at the heart of everything we do. Alongside the class teacher and Dual Language Teacher, you will be responsible for promoting high expectations of an inclusive setting, with equality of opportunity for all, and where each child is valued and feels safe and cared for. You may be required to carry out duties not specified as and when requested by the Primary or College Leadership Teams.
Specific duties include:
To support in a designated class or setting
To support the development of Dual Language
To support with the planning and teaching of Mandarin to the children in the Early Years’ department
To attend parent’s evenings and meetings pertaining to the Early Years’ department
To support with assessment, documentation tasks, writing reports
To work alongside the class teacher and Dual Language teacher to create an environment in which the children’s learning flourishes
To be responsible, with the class teacher, for the pastoral care of the children in their class and to be involved in the pastoral care of all children in the Early Years’ department
To take part in the planning and preparation for learning both inside and outside the classroom as led by the class teacher
To share responsibility for the management of classroom resources, the replenishment of materials, setting up of the classroom and ensuring the safety of the teaching environment
To be aware of, and take part in, the school’s performance management framework and participate in training and development activities as required
To play a role in the College Chinese New Year celebrations and other important Chinese festivals To facilitate the learning of individual children or small group of children, guided by the class teacher
To manage behaviour positively, as agreed and set out in the school policy
To attend staff meetings and professional development activities as required
General responsibilities include:
To participate in the extra-curricular life of the children by leading, organising or being involved in extra-curricular activities within the school day Attend community events and be an ambassador for the college
To undertake supervisory duties in the dining hall and playground as directed by the Head of Primary
To act as a role model, showing awareness of individual needs and responding to them Comply with policies and procedures relating to child protection, health and safety, welfare, security, confidentiality and data protection, reporting any concerns to the appropriate person
To carry out other duties, as may be reasonably requested by Head of Primary and the Headmaster of Dulwich College Shanghai Puxi Support the leadership and development of the College
Requirement
A minimum of two years’ experience in an Early Years setting Chinese Teaching Certificate Fluency in Mandarin and English (IELTs 5 or equivalent) Demonstrated experience in supporting children’s learning in a stimulating learning environment Demonstrated experience in using educational ICT to promote learning, or a willingness to do so Knowledge of the Early Years curriculum pedagogy Awareness of the importance of using a variety of assessments and observation to assess children’s learning Commitment to supporting all aspects of our programme including extra-curricular activities and contribution to the school community Previous experience in an international school and familiarity with the British education system would be desirable
