Position Summary

The office of University Communications manages and orchestrates all external and internal communications aimed at raising NYU Shanghai’s reputation and creating a favorable point of view among the university’s key constituencies for its mission of education, research and engagement.

This position will be mainly responsible for assisting with daily updates and content creation for Chinese social media (WeChat, Weibo, Bilibili and Douyin), and translating English content into Chinese, mainly including video captions, subtitles, and more. Some translation from Chinese to English may be required, but will be post-edited.

English will be the source language for most of your work, so you must have a firm grasp of the nuances of the language.

Key responsibilities:

• Using WeChat formatting tools such as Xiumi to present content in a well structured, engaging, and aesthetically pleasing way.

• Strategize, analyze and create reports on other university social media, keep up to date on current social media practices, brainstorming new ideas and generating new leads.

• Translating English content into Chinese and occasionally vice versa with attention to facts and linguistic nuance.Go above and beyond word for word translation, using creativity and knowledge to find innovative translation solutions that remain loyal to the intent, format, and tone of the source.

• Generating fun and original Chinese content.

• Ad hoc tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Native Chinese speaker with strong English reading/writing skills.

• Excellent Chinese writing skills. Aware of social media trends.

• Candidates with skills in photography, photo-editing, and video-editing preferred.

• Commitment of at least 3 days/week, 8 hours/day for at least 3 months.

• A Chinese writing sample or a translation sample preferred. Content related to marketing, social media, current events preferred.
