IT Project Manager - NYU Shanghai
NYU Shanghai is seeking a highly motivated, experience IT project manager to help build, improve and support the IT infrastructure of NYU Shanghai. The IT project manager will be responsible for performing tactical project management on high-priority global initiatives that require cross-team, vendor, and time-zone coordination of resources, and making sure that NYU Shanghai IT projects are aligned with the academic and administrative requirements.
The IT Project Manager will be accountable for evaluating project requirements, engaging appropriate Shanghai local IT personnel and local 3rd party resource coordination to execute IT portion of joint global and local deployment of varying degrees of voice, data and video conferencing services to students, staff and faculty. The initiative will span the interim operation on the campus of East China Normal University, as well as the migration (equipment, services and staff) from the ECNU campus to NYU Shanghai,s permanent campus in Pudong New Area. The IT Project Manager will be responsible for creating and managing IT project plans within the overall project scope. Additionally, the IT Project Manager manages and reports on any Issues, action Items and risks that arise during project development and delivery.
The IT Project manager is expected to have broad knowledge of IT infrastructure, networking, systems, and operations and a general understanding of technical terms. The candidate should feel comfortable dealing with uncertainties in a fast changing environment and be willing to learn and delve into fields that he/she is previously unfamiliar with.
IT Program Management Duties:
Provides general oversight and tracking of all related Shanghai IT Program projects to support project level activity and maintain overall program goals.
Acts as the liaison between NYU Shanghai IT project teams and NYU GTS/ITS to ensure all IT at NYU Shanghai related project dates and deliverables are met on scope and on schedule.
Acts as a guide for the Shanghai management team through discovery, engagement, and communication in order to surface project needs, determine project scope and provide recommendations for solutions.
Works directly with other portfolio managers, project managers and workgroup leads to coordinate activities across teams and organizations, including contracted vendors.
Prepares high level summaries and detailed technical reports for executives and stakeholders.
Provides direct project management on specific work efforts within the Shanghai IT Program.
Identifies and manages cross-project dependencies and provides insight to the risks, issues, requirements, designs and/or solutions.
Coordinates and prioritizes resources across projects, managing links between the projects and the overall costs and risks of the program utilizing project management tools and processes.
Facilitates sign off and hand off of projects to NYU Shanghai operations and management teams.
Specific day-to-day tasks on each assigned project include:
· Establish plans, timelines, budgets and milestones.
· Write business cases and work plans.
· Track and status action items and deliverables.
· Schedule, coordinate and host meetings.
· Create and distribute documentation.
· Perform research and analysis.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor,s degree in computer science, information technology, telecommunication, or other related fields.
- At least 3 years, experience in managing concurrently medium to large projects that span multiple locations, departments and engage multiple vendors and parties.
- At least 3 years, experience working in the field of information technology in a multinational company
- In-depth knowledge and experience of fundamental project management tools and documentation - including Communication Plan, Budget Tracking, Issue Log, Risk Log, Work Breakdown Structure, and Project Schedule
- A proven understanding of project life cycle, from inception to go live
- Capable of working with people in different time zones
- Excellent communication and documentation skills
- Working closely with multiple teams and meeting deadlines
- Proficiency in Mandarin and English, both writing and speaking
Preferred skills/experience:
- Experience in IT infrastructure construction and network design
- Experience in server design and administration
- Experience in ERP application development, migration, integration
- Familiar with IT equipment manufacturers, vendors, brands, distributors
- PMI, ITIL or equivalent certification
- A basic knowledge/experience with a common software development life cycle methodology (SDLC), i.e. Waterfall, Agile, and Iterative.
