Position Overview
Bio-Chem Fluidics Inc. (BCF) www.biochemfluidics.com is a U.S. based manufacturer of specialty valves and pumps for the scientific, life sciences, and medical markets. BCF is a subsidiary of Halma International Limited (www.halma.com ). BCF operates a sales office in Shanghai, China, alongside consolidated production facilities operated by Halma Fluid Technologies (HFT). This is a dynamic and entrepreneurial organization where all employees perform multiple roles to make Bio-Chem Fluidics successful.
BCF seeks an Application Engineer to undertake product engineering work. This work relates to customized applications of its product line for specific application projects with existing and new Asian OEM customers.
The Application Engineer will manage the development and implementation of customer-specific application projects derived from the broader BCF product portfolio. The scope of this role includes defining product specifications (in collaboration with the Sales Manager and the OEM), creating product designs, prototyping, testing, costing, and managing production implementation. In addition to the focus on the Asian OEM market, this individual will also be called upon to assist with particular R&D, product-improvement, cost-reduction, and marketing initiatives, as well as interact with HFT production staff to resolve products issues as required.
Responsibilities
1. Assume responsibility for multiple Applications Engineering projects.
2. Define product specifications based on customer requests as documented by the Sales Team.
3. Interact with customers' engineering staffs as required to develop clear specifications through solution development to quoting and commercialization.
4. Undertake CAD designs and drawing-release of product modifications to achieve required specifications.
5. Oversee the fabrication and testing of prototype units to ensure proposed changes meet product specifications.
6. Establish total cost of customized products.
7. Process necessary paperwork and electronic records to release custom product into production (ERP BOMs, drawings, ECNs, etc.).
8. Carry out additional administrative and staff training duties as needed to ensure product is produced to meet design intent.
9. Assist with other ongoing initiatives for quality improvement, product improvement, cost reductions, R&D, etc.
Requirements / Experience
1. BS in Mechanical Engineering or academic equivalent.
2. 5+ years of proven experience in a similar mechanical engineering / product-development role.
3. Self-starter and goal oriented with competitive nature and a passion for success.
4. Prior work with fluidic control devices (e.g. pumps, valves, manifolds, etc.) is highly desirable.
5. Prior work in an engineer-to-order product customization / application environment is a plus.
6. Proficiency in CAD design / drawing release is required (preferably Solid Works).
7. Prior exposure to working with European and/or American companies is a plus.
8. High level of concern for customers' needs / take engineering work very seriously.
9. Articulate and professional communicator.
10. Legally able to work in the Peoples Republic of China (PRC).
11. Available for travel in PRC, and to Europe and the United States on an occasional basis.
12. Fluent in English both spoken and written.
