Position Summary

The Applications Engineer will support the sales and marketing team to diagnose and solve customer problems, support front end new business development, and help customers develop or improve existing processes using Materion’s advanced chemical materials including inorganic powder and evaporation materials for semiconductor and electronics market. In addition, the Applications Engineer will aid in the promotion and improvement of Materion’s advanced chemicals line through direct discussions with customers, by helping develop supporting literature and technical documentation, and by generating ideas for improving existing products or proposing new products. The position is based in Shanghai China, reporting to Sales Lead China, and Application Engineer Manager based outside China.

 

Major Responsibilities

• Provides engineering support to Materion’s advanced chemicals customers to identify and resolve material performance issues and identify new sales opportunities.  

• Interfaces with customers and/or Materion internal quality teams on all technical quality issues and monitors corrections/improvements through to completion.

• Works directly with customers and/or collaborates with Product Specialists/Managers and other Development Teams / Market Leaders, to understand the needs of the customer and help develop product/process solutions and Critical to Quality (CTQ) attributes.

• Develops relationships with strategic contacts among key customers and industry contacts.  Significant travel for face to face customer support / understanding required.

• Communicates the customer’s requirements to the company for engineering and production purposes.

• Develops technical literature and support documentation for Materion’s products.

• Responsible for training of internal Materion team on specific technology or product/service.

• Responsible for training external customers on specific technology or product/service.

• Attend technical conferences, seminars, and tradeshows.

• Work with market end customers for networking opportunities, new product development outlook, and staying abreast of industry processes and trends.

• Working with customers/market to identify new product/product extension opportunities in conjunction with Materion’s sales, marketing, and R&D functions.

   

 

Candidate Specifications

• M.S Engineering degree in chemicals, materials or related major, advanced degree preferred.  Min. 2 years’ experience in a high-tech environment such as a semiconductors, electronics materials or research institute etc.

• Detailed knowledge of chemicals applications in semiconductor/electronics with sputtering and evaporation processes with a strong emphasis on debugging existing processes and developing new processes.

• Strong communications skills and ability to work with both customer plant engineers and internal quality and manufacturing to resolve quality issues and communicate customer requirements.

• Computer skills necessary and should include knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel AND be able to learn database management.

• Excellent verbal, written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills.

• High ethics, strong work ethic, self-starter, and strategic thinker.
