The Institute of Science and Technology for Brain-inspired Intelligence (ISTBI), Fudan University, Shanghai is seeking to appoint a talented and motivated individual to serve as a full-time Research Assistant for a team of foreign experts. The team carries out pioneering research within the scientific fields of cognitive, clinical, computational neurosciences, bioinformatics, mathematics and artificial intelligence, utilising cutting-edge data acquisition and analysis methods.

  

The Research Assistant for Foreign Experts will support the international scientists in their administrative duties related to research and teaching. The initial appointment for this position will be for a two-year term, with a potential extension based on performance. The Research Assistant will work directly with the foreign experts, receive extensive training on university wide rules and regulations, have opportunities to participate in staff meetings, seminars and collaborate on the organisation of international conferences, workshops and symposia. This position is ideally suited for individuals who are interested in pursuing a Master’s degree in the fields of science or business administration and management. Established in 2015 at Fudan University, ISTBI is an interdisciplinary research institution that aims to train the next generation of leading scientists. In addition to an excellent team of researchers and support staff, ISTBI is home to the newly constructed Zhangjiang International Brain Imaging Centre (ZIC), which houses state-of-the-art research equipment that includes 3T, 7T and 11.7T MRI scanners.

Job Description:

  

The Research Assistant for Foreign Experts will be responsible for:

1.  Performing basic administrative duties related to research and teaching activities that include personnel and fiscal management as well as language translation.

2.  Acting as a liaison between foreign experts and the university/institute. 

3.  Working collaboratively with the personnel at the university/institute to submit grant applications via various online portals and to manage budget justifications.

4.  Ensuring timely submission of all reports and applications requested from the university, institute as well as national and international funding bodies.

5.  Translating official communications from the university, institute and national offices to and from Chinese (Mandarin) and English.

6.  Assisting with the preparation of Institutional Review Board (IRB) ethics applications.

7.  Managing the recruitment of new research personnel, including visiting researchers.  

8.  Ensuring that all internal and external forms, documents and procedures are up-to-date in coordination with the university and institute personnel.  

9.  Facilitating the purchase and procurement of IT equipment and software, laboratory and office supplies and other purchases for research programs and studies.

10.   Maintaining the content for the institutional and personal websites of foreign experts.

11.  Assisting the foreign experts in the organisation of national, international symposia, workshops and conferences.

Job Requirements: 

1.  Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in science/business administration and management, economics, psychology, English-translation or a related field.  

2.  Outstanding language skills in both written and spoken English and Chinese (Mandarin). 

3.  Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail. 

4.  Evidence of sound judgment, trouble-shooting and creative problem-solving skills.

5.  Self-motivated, mature, and enthusiastic about working in an academic setting. 

6.  Great interpersonal skills and a professional approach to working with others.

7.  Ability to work with a wide range of individuals including clinical populations.

8.  Ability to work in a fast-paced setting and advance multiple tasks simultaneously.

9.  Ability to handle fluctuating priorities and deadlines.

 

Preferred Education, Experience and Skills:

1.  Prior experience of working in an academic setting with foreign experts.

2.  Prior experience in project management with fiscal and administrative duties.

3.  Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and project management software.

  研究院拥有一支学养深厚、视野开阔、思想活跃的跨学科国际化研究团队，其中教授/研究员21名，包括2014年Brain奖（神经科学***奖项）获得者Trevor Robbins等英国皇家学会会士、美国科学院院士等国外院士4名、“长江特聘教授”2名、国家“973”计划及国家重大科学研究计划项目首席科学家、国家重点研发计划项目负责人8名以及一大批优秀的海外青年研究员、工程技术人员等60多名。
