On April 14, 1981, in Honolulu, Hawaii, William “Bill” Melton incorporated his new tech company. The original intention was to provide a recourse for retailers who’d been swindled by people handing out bad checks. Bill's product was a kind of verification device using phone lines—a verification phone.

But then a pivot. The credit card industry was relatively new at the time and processing was still being done with carbon paper. Bill saw a way to reduce costs for companies like Visa and MasterCard, while capitalizing on this new technology. Instead of verifying checks, we would provide local businesses a means to electronically process credit card payments. And thus, the Verifone payment device was born.

Now, Verifone is one of the world’s largest POS terminal vendors and a leading provider of payment and commerce solutions. Position Summary – Principal Mechanical Design Engineer:

We are currently seeking a Principle Mechanical Design Engineer for our Taipei office. You will be responsible for new Module development transition from DR (Design Release) through volume production ramp, take full ownership of module development post DR phase that allows the original design team to quickly move to support other new module development for the best utilization of design resources in the organization. This is a high technical oriented position in which is recognized as an expert in a specific technology or product line. Technical leadership is constantly demonstrated in seeking improvements to methods and products, often influencing management decisions. May be called on to represent Verifone engineering to customers, CMs, suppliers, etc.

Your Essential Responsibilities:

• You will be responsible for the sustaining of Verifone POS terminals after DR
• Do failure analysis and provide feasible proposal for the issue. Also need to prepare document to present to higher management and cross function.
• Play a key role in ensuring the solution for defect meets quality and cost goals, and achieves specifications of reliability, manufacturability, and functionality.
• Launch the modification and qualification of part/process for the issue
• The role will be based in Taipei office

Knowledge & Experience

• You have earned a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering
• You have experience with ME for over 10 years in 3C field
• Experience with Solidworks and Pro-E is preferred.
• Experience with product documentation management systems (PDM), such as Agile, is great.
• Experience working with in-house teams and global ODM/JDM teams.
• Development of POS products a plus
• Demonstrated ability to lead multiple priorities and tasks at a time.
• Ability to travel domestic/ internationally (up to 10%).
• Candidates must be experienced in designing parts for injection molding, die-casting, machining, and stamping, which go through various finishing processes, including painting or plating.
• Candidate will be expected to have critical thinking with exceptional problem-solving skills, able to work independently or in a team environment and be Proactive, resourceful & highly motivated with good communication skills and ability to work in high output environment.
• Must be adaptable and comfortable with a fast-paced working environment, and must be able to effectively communicate across all relevant departments (e.g. International Team, Electrical Engineers, Manufacturer Engineers, Program Managers, Supply Chain, etc.)
• Candidate must familiar with new product development projects, as well as solving design and manufacturing challenges on existing product lines.
• Candidate must be able to identify and resolve the critical issues of a project
• Must have excellent verbal and written English communication skills
