About the role

Bauxite and Alumina (B&A) is accountable for Rio Tinto’s worldwide activities related to bauxite mining and refining into smelter-grade alumina. The business unit employs approximately 6,000 people (incl. JVs, excl. contractors) in ten countries and owns and/or operates five bauxite mines and four smelter-grade alumina plants. B&A is a recognized leader and supplier of alumina refinery technology and has an extensive project pipeline which includes the expansion of operations in Australia and potential future development in many other countries.

We are looking for a Specialist –Technical Marketing to assist the Bauxite & Alumina Technical Marketing Principal Advisor to deliver the technical assistance required to support bauxite sales.

The specific focus of the team is the monitoring of external refinery performance processing Rio Tinto bauxite and to provide personalised technical solutions to refinery issues involved with processing the bauxite. This involves implementation of systems to monitor refinery technology and best operating practices so as to offer the external customers ongoing improvements to overall plant performance

This role is a great opportunity for a techno-commercial individual who thrives on driving collaboration and alignment, is highly organised, self-managed and likes to be challenged. Reporting to the Bauxite & Alumina Technical Marketing Principal Advisor, you will:

• Support the Bauxite & Alumina Technical Marketing team in delivering the business objectives

• Drive effective delivery of Bayer process technical and operational advice

• Maintain data management systems to monitor and report in a timely manner the site performance of all the Chinese customer refineries consuming Rio Tinto bauxite

• Participate in regular communication with Chinese customer refineries consuming Rio Tinto bauxite

• Maintain a current understanding of the operations of the Rio Tinto Gladstone refineries and Australian Bauxite mines

• Provide technical input for the development of technological solutions and improvements to our customers to facilitate our Bauxite export business

• Support stakeholder engagement and relationships with external bauxite customers’ visits

• Monitor trends in the global bauxite and alumina industries for technology development

About you

To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

• Chemical Engineering qualification with extensive technical experience in the chemical Bayer Process – including relevant technologies, current research and development.
• Extensive knowledge with Bauxite and Alumina operations and chemical processes.
• Excellent English capability - written and spoken.
• Strong influencing skills, ability to form trust and lasting relationships.
• Strong communication skills between different business and cultural groups.
• Demonstrated outcomes in a Project Management with a proven performance with safety standards and improvements.
• Critical thinking and analysis (numerical and verbal) with the ability to implement strategy that is aligned with the business objectives.

It will also be beneficial if you have:

• Post graduate qualification in Business or Business Administration.
• Ability to work across cultures with international experience and multicultural exposure.
• Experience in an operational leadership role.
