The company has an opportunity for an Application Development Scientist/Engineer for Industrial Coatings within Dow Coating Materials, based in Shanghai, China. This position will focus on the technical package development to support DCM products in new industrial coating applications, such as construction industrialization, industrial additive, advanced metal and traffic paint, etc. The successful candidate will work in close collaboration with the sales, TS&D and broader marketing teams to ensure sales/volume implementation beyond current DCM core businesses.

Key Responsibilities:

？ Identify new industrial opportunities, and understand market sizing, dynamics, competitive intelligence, customer dynamics, and customer journey to create effective technical proposals.

？ Formulation and application package development for existing DCM products, and support business expansion in new identified industrial applications.

？ Deliver direct technical support and sales to new coatings customers. Assist regional commercial group to develop and achieve growth plans.

？ Support new product development in the field of binders and additives for water borne industrial coatings in collaboration with R&D.

？ Market awareness via participation in industry groups and networks

？ Prepare and deliver scientific/technical presentations at seminars, customer visits and trainings (internal and external).

？ Prepare and execute laboratory work plans including via direct bench work, data analysis and report writing.

？ Technology and IP monitoring (via connections with other Dow R&D locations, use of IP tools). Creation and protection of intellectual property in collaboration with R&D

Qualifications

• A master or Ph.D degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,
  Biological chemistry or coating related majors.
• >5 years of experience in industrial coating areas, with
  practical experience of formulating and applying industrially applied
  coatings greatly appreciated
• Commercial (Sales/Marketing) or customer facing experience is
  greatly appreciated
• Good chemical lab skills (coating chemistry skills particularly
  appreciated).
• Mobility to travel (>30% of work time).
• Strong customer orientation skills.
• Required to coordinate work with regional technical team and with
  central research groups in US.
• Excellent team spirit, enthusiasm and focus on innovation.
• Fast acting and results driven.
• Fluent English language skills mandatory.
