The position of Gear Process Engineer covers the wide-ranging needs of gear manufacturing operations. Responsibilities involve all phases of project evolution from inception to production implementation.

Project activities are varied and may involve:

Projects may be initiated by operating supervisors or managers or the Manufacturing Department Manager

When involved in process troubleshooting, a Gear Process Engineer is responsible for carefully defining the problem, searching out alternative solutions, recommending the best solution, which may require liaison with Design Engineering to develop costs, and following up on implementation.

New process or product development work may result from attendance at technical meetings or seminars. Generally, these projects require a thorough literature search at the onset. From there, extensive pilot plant studies may be required. When conclusive results are obtained, recommendations are reported by circulating a technical report and/or presenting findings at a project meeting with management.

Depending on the size of the project, follow-up involving optimization and troubleshooting may be extensive. Projects involving major capital expenditures are frequently handled by a team comprised of operations, technical service and design engineering personnel.

The time required to complete individual project activities varies greatly from very short time periods for troubleshooting problems to perhaps six months to a year for extensive process or product development.

A Gear Process Engineer works on several projects simultaneously. About one-half of the time is spent at a desk doing literature searches, conducting data analysis with computer spreadsheets, and writing reports. The rest of the time is spent on field work and in meetings.

Typical project assignments include:

A Bachelor of Science degree is required, preferably in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Technology. However, well qualified individuals in other closely related fields will also be considered.

Two key skills are required for success at Omni Gear: the ability to solve problems, and to form effective relationships with others. Applying the fundamentals learned in the pursuit of an engineering degree in a creative and energetic fashion results in timely solutions to problems. Through interacting with a wide range of people (supervisors, technicians, fellow engineers, operating personnel, suppliers, etc.), solutions are researched and implemented. Effective communication in English and Chinese, oral and written, is required during all phases of project work; ideas must be clearly communicated to people at all levels in the Company to bring projects to fruition.
