JOB TITLE Science teaching assistant DEPARTMENT Science department

OBJECTIVES To assist science teachers in preparing science lab equipment and experiments, communicating with pupils and parents on science learning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

-Preparing chemicals and laboratory apparatus for science lessons.

-Washing and storing glassware after use.

-Maintaining safe storage and well-organized inventory of chemicals and apparatus, reordering as required.

-Maintenance of all equipment within the science labs.

---Safe keeping and management of apparatus, models and diagrams in accordance with experiment requirement, in an orderly and classified manner.

---Paying special attention to the security of toxic, corrosive and highly flammable/explosive materials, making clear labels.

---Prevention of valuable equipment being stolen.

-Establishing and improving procedures of waste\loan\use\compensation of equipment and chemicals; conducting regular inventory check.

-Ensuring the science department complies with local regulations on safety, chemicals, radioactive etc.

-Managing the department office, in particular making sure that the office is tidy and well presented for visitors. Responsible for ensuring that all relevant paperwork is organized and filed.

-Assisting the Head of science in procurement.

-Assisting in events management for all department events, in consolation with the Head of science.

-Managing non-essential parental communication on behalf of the Head of science.

-Providing support in field trips and assisting teachers in school events.

-Organising stock and materials

-Translating articles about science department events.

-Taking over science class when teachers are absent.

-Establishing relevant regulations of the science labs.

-Familiar with the working principle and operation of all types of experiment equipment; Conducting regular maintenance to improve the serviceability rate and repairing broken apparatus, models and diagrams timely.

-Learning the teaching programme of science, especially the content of A-Level and IGCSE; Fully understanding the requirement of student experiment; actively participating in teaching activities and aware of the experiment plan made by teachers.

-Understanding and mastering the content of experiments; Preparing relevant equipment; Assisting teachers in experiment instruction and helping students in completing tasks.

-Assisting student in assorted science experiments.

-Attending meetings as requested by academic leaders and the principals.

-Other assigned work as requested by the director of science.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

BASIC QUALIFICATION

-Education: Bachelor’s degree.

-Major: Chemistry or Biology related.

-Language: Native Chinese speaker and fluent in English, minimum CET-6, Familiar with terminology of the major and able to accurately express meanings.

-Teaching qualification Certificate for Primary and Junior High

-Support Wellington Value.

EXPERIENCE Working Experience A minimum of 2-year relevant experience.

EXPERTISE

-Outstanding communication in English and Chinese.

-Familiarity with handling chemicals.

-An understanding of the importance of safety in their work.

-Familiar with Office software.

-International and bilingual school working experience is preferred.

-Ability to plan ahead and meet deadlines.

-Cross-cultural working experience is preferred.
