VON ARDENNE needs a capable, motivated Applications Engineering Manager for our local Sales department, where the successful candidate is responsible for the support of development and commercialization of applications for vacuum coating systems built by VON ARDENNE GmbH. This position is responsible for providing technical guidance to VON ARDENNE′s sales team members and to related representatives and prospective customers and process support to existing customers. The individual must be expert in plasma technology, vacuum coating and process control. He/she must have detailed technical knowledge of vacuum equipment and subsystems and be familiar with the design of VON ARDENNE built equipment. This position requires expert level knowledge of plasma physics, ion sources, magnetrons and related processes.  Knowledge of materials science and the effects of plasma processes on the structure and properties of materials, in particular thin film coatings, is also required. This position requires excellent analytical and strategic planning skills and general knowledge of product development processes. This position must be familiar with the technology roadmaps of key industries, including Displays and OLED, Electrochromic Glass, Photovoltaic Devices and Architectural Glass. To be successful, the Applications Engineering Manager must be capable of identifying business opportunities derived from these technology roadmaps.  He/she should be a good communicator, presenter and instructor. He/she will interface with customers’ technical experts and management as well as VON ARDENNE’s scientists and product development managers, and the application engineers and the sales team members at VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment (Shanghai) Co., Ltd.

  

YOUR TASKS 

• Provide application guidance and technical support to VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment sales team members and related sales representatives of VON ARDENNE.

• Identify, evaluate and prioritize new applications and business opportunities for VON ARDENNE in order to support, generate and present business case studies.

• Respond to customer requests for process improvements, equipment upgrades, modifi­cations and new equipment;
• Effectively communicate customer and prospective customer expectations and technical requirements to product managers, VON ARDENNE′s engineering department and other team members and stakeholders at VON ARDENNE.

• Conduit for ideas to the Head of Business Areas at VON ARDENNE.

• Develop and direct application engineers at VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment. Is Mentor and provide technical training to staff members at VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment.

• Submit request to VON ARDENNE’s development laboratory and participate at experiments, coating samples and development projects when required.

• Coordinate support from sub-system suppliers of power supplies, vacuum pumps, pressure measurement and flow management devices.

• Generate new equipment contracts and service revenue through active support to sales and service team members at VON ARDENNE Vacuum Equipment and to VON ARDENNE′s related sales representatives.

• Promote VON ARDENNE at conferences and customer sites. Write and present techni­cal papers and publications.

• Must be able to  travel domestically and internationally overnight, as needed, up to 60% of the time

  

YOUR PROFILE 

• Minimum MS degree in Physics or Engineering and MBA (PhD preferred);

• Minimum 10 years of experience designing/installing/supporting vacuum coating equip­ment and/or processes;

• Expert level knowledge of plasma physics, plasma enhancement, activation and cleaning, vacuum coating, related processes and competing technologies;

• Excellent analytical and planning skills;

• Excellent oral and written communication skills, including instruction and teaching and outstanding team spirit;

          

• Ability to work and communicate with foreign nationals;

• High ability to adapt adequately to local and foreign behavior;

• Being interested in self-guided learning;

      

• Very good command of spoken and written English and Chinese is mandatory for this position;

• Knowledge of the following applications:

    

• ITO coatings,

• Barrier layer coatings,

• Low-e, double low-e, triple low-e films for architectural glass coating,

• Optical films for solar control, LED, display (TFT, LCD, OLED, etc.),

• Front contact, back contact and active layers for PV cells.

          

• Establishing and maintaining an excellent corporate image of VON ARDENNE;

• Must be able to travel domestically and internationally overnight, as needed, up to 60% of the time.

VON ARDENNE GmbH develops and manufactures advanced coating equipment for the deposition of micrometer to nanometer-thin functional layers on materials such as glass, metal strip, wafers and polymer films.
