POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for locating, evaluating, and supporting the approval of China sourced electrical and mechanical components and parts to support Rain Bird Controls division manufactured product lines. This position will work with Rain Bird Controls division Quality, Engineering, Production, and Materials planning teams in order to qualify suppliers of: electrical components and assemblies such as transformers, printed circuit boards, integrated circuits, microcontrollers, triacs, capacitors, resistors, cable harnesses, etc.

Specific responsibilities include:
- Responsible for quoting and negotiating with all approved suppliers, including logistics.
- Responsible for finding new suppliers for electronic components and assemblies and plastic parts.
- Assists Engineering with all supplier activities as it relates to product quality.
- Assist in the team coordination of all areas of supplier approval such as first article inspections, validation testing, pilot runs, delivery adherence, etc.
- Aggressively reduce purchasing costs and improve supplier deliveries.
- Learning and understanding Rain Bird's Corporate Quality Standards, Audit Process, and Quality requirements for suppliers.
- Conduct preliminary on-site visits and preliminary quality audits of suppliers to identify their capabilities and potential fit as a Rain Bird Controls supplier.
- Insure that all new supplier selections are capable to meet or exceed all of Rain Bird's Corporate Quality and Audit Standards, as well as meet or exceed Rain Bird Controls supplier needs.
- Coordinate with Rain Bird Controls management team as a key member in the selection of new suppliers that meet established cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate with Rain Bird Controls management and administration to ensure supplier understanding and compliance with Rain Bird Controls business policies and practices.
- Design and implement effective cost-reduction programs with existing suppliers.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electronic/Electrical Engineering, Business, or related field.
- 3-5 years experience working in Purchasing field in a Manufacturing environment.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet, word-processing, and manufacturing-control software.
- Strong understanding of engineering principles including: reading of prints, some knowledge of metal & plastic materials, some knowledge of manufacturing processes, including injection molding, die casting, sand casting, stamping, forming, and machining.
- Good English language written and verbal skills.
- Working knowledge of quality standards such as ISO-9000/QS-9000.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- An advanced degree in Business, Engineering, or related field.
- A work history of cost savings, supplier cost-reduction strategies, and supplier performance improvement programs.
- Knowledge of manufacturing techniques such as: JIT, 5S, and Lean Manufacturing.
- 3-5 years experience of supplier selection/negotiations in a global manufacturing industry.
- Exposure to International sourcing, import/export, and China customs regulations.
- APICS certification or knowledge.
