Position: Product Strategy R-Line

Division/Department: Volkswagen China Passenger Cars Brand/Product Management

Location: Beijing

Main goals and objectives:

1. Product process
  • Operative and strategic responsibility of both local and import R-Line of all product lines for region China
  • Preparation of activities for milestones of all Compact R-Line products, application for funds and approval of each product
  • Attainment of the respective return on investment and appropriate volume and results
  • Preparation and alignment of all R-Line decision documents for all necessary Product Decision Committees G1 Kreis, China-MAP, China-VAP, VW-VAP, K-VAP, Product forum R GmbH etc.
2. Lifecycle management and analysis / portfolio efficiency
  • Development of lifecycle measures
  • Analysis of portfolio efficiency for R-Line vehicles and maintain efficient portfolio
3. Leadership and responsibility
  • Leadership of intercultural and hetero lingual product teams
  • Set-up and continuous further development of relations with management-representatives

Your Responsibilities:

1. Task range product process
  • Generate and significant joint responsibility in attainment of targets in order to reach project milestones, managing decision-making procedures in case of conflicting goals and coordinating countermeasures with affected divisions and departments. Particularly due to the cultural and participation regulated heterogeneity of the region, this task is linked with a high ambition level.
  • Generate and share responsibility for steering of product programs. Generate and take responsibility of concrete planning for individual projects according to enterprising set goals. Across segments verify activities of product planning.
  • Entrepreneurial leading of product teams of R-Line vehicle, for which the position holder is responsible.
  • Preparation of corresponding product decisions for all product decision committees.
  • Cross-functional compiling, aligning and verifying of committee documents for R-Line vehicle projects from the concept phase all the way until market launch as well as catalogue of characteristics.
  • Goal-oriented steering-in of R-Line strategy in the Chinese market.
  • Managing decision-making procedures in case of functional conflicting goals between competing objectives based on proposals of product teams. Product-steering and if necessary escalation in committees.
  • Steering and providing of resources for the product teams in alignment with product management GM.
  • Steering and leading of product team members and ensuring of cross links of R-Line projects. In doing so, also cross-JV, cross-regional, cross-brand, in R GmbH and VW AG.
  • Close alignment with product managers of VW AG, brands, JVs and R GmbH.
  • Ensuring the financial project results according to set objectives for responsible R-Line projects.
  • Ensuring the use of resources for R-Line projects.
  • Overall responsibility and operative support in product conventions for all responsible R-Line products.
  • Developing process flow from project decision all the way until market launch for responsible R-Line products for all VW vehicles in China.

2. Task range Lifecycle management and analysis/ portfolio efficiency
  • Acquire, evaluate and judge information of state of the technique and market incl. benchmark analysis of competitive sporty vehicle products and develop and represent product improvements proposals.
  • Ensuring product portfolio efficiency of responsible products.
  • Lifecycle management of responsible vehicle projects as well as responsible contribution, initiating and verifying of analysis of Volkswagen R-Line vehicles. Moreover, responsible contribution in developing improvements for lifecycle of vehicle projects.
  • Developing of long-term-premises and alternative planning for responsible products in a multidimensional and heterogeneous market environment.
  • Self-dependent setting of objectives and deduction of correspondent strategies from business cases of projects.
  • Self-dependent development of new methods and processes for ensuring cross-functional target achievements under predefined framework conditions. Ensuring competitive ability of responsible products for the overall life cycle.

3. Task range leadership and responsibility

  • Integration of different thinking- and planning cultures within the scope of alignment of product projects with Joint Ventures, VW R GmbH and VW AG.
  • Compiling of innovative approach in order to eliminate intercultural or interest-conditioned conflicts/problems within the teamwork in product teams.
  • Set-up and continuous further development of relations with management representatives of Joint Ventures, product management in Wolfsburg, R GmbH, product management of brands and regions as well as external sources (consulting, organizations, market research institution etc.)
  • Leading of intercultural and hetero lingual product teams with project team members from various departments and corporations as well as external service provider. Integration of employees with multicultural background is basis requirement and main part of the position.
  • Representation of production and technical development divisions in product related alignment rounds with brands and VW AG.
  • Conducting of business trips, also intercontinental, in order to monitor or prepare workshops as well as projects in national and international environment.
  • The position holder is responsible for tasks described in the job profile as well as for tasks which are not related to the position holder’s products, tasks of board of management, cross-product and cross-functional tasks and specific tasks.

Our Requirements:

Necessary education:

  • Graduate degree of reputable university (Master or the like)

Personal skills:

  • Good business acumen, good network in Product Management of R GmbH, VW AG Wolfsburg, Joint Ventures, brands and regions. Distinctive capability in motivating product team members with competence, experience and profound knowledge.
  • Good process management competencies. Experience in intercultural context. Profound knowledge of strategy, automotive engineering and business administration as well as Chinese automobile market.

Working experience (in years):

  • 5 years of work experience, thereof at least 2 years work experience in Product Management or in product related department (e.g. Product Controlling, Product Marketing, Product development etc.).

Remarks (Language, IT Knowledge, Certificates etc.):

  • Good command of at least two of the following languages German, English and / or Chinese. MS-Office-Knowledge especially Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook
