Position: CAN Bus Engineer

We are expanding our autonomous driving/intelligent connected vehicle team in Beijing to bring self-driving cars to Chinese streets as soon as possible. Our technical teams work closely together with our experts at headquarters in Wolfsburg and other autonomous driving teams across the globe. Together with you, our experts, and technology partners we create the future of mobility.

Main goals and objectives:

The core mission of this position is to create, develop, integrate and validate chassis and vehicle motion control systems for autonomous cars. In order to achieve this mission, the position will have to develop engineering requirements at system and subsystem levels (e.g. related to CAN interface). This role is to provide input for overall system design to product level: system architecture, failure mode, system redundancy, etc. The position’s importance comes from the knowledge of CAN communication and the transformation of sensor data into driving an autonomous car.

Your Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for the described scope and tasks within the Group R&D department of Volkswagen Group China. The position is managing multiple stakeholders in China and Germany. Therefore, the position holds the responsibility to align with relevant stakeholders.

？ Derive together with external partners the requirements on CAN interface and communication for smooth drive-by-wire operation of Volkswagen Group vehicles used for autonomous driving.

？ Closely align with HQ on CAN bus requirements for drive-by-wire realization while securing CAN bus protocols and implement specified requirements.

？ Provide input for overall system design to product level: system architecture, failure mode, system redundancy, etc.

？ Drive architecture discussions focusing on fault protection, performance, and reliability. Contribute to hardware or software design reviews

？ Define and manage requirements for integration of redundant drive-by-wire actuation systems for a self-driving vehicle.

？ Cooperate closely with engineers from teams such as prediction and planning.

？ Interface with other key stake holders in order to improve overall system performance.

Our Requirements:

Necessary education:

？ Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Personal skills:

？ High focus on problem solving and delivering added-value to the product

？ Good communication skills (written, oral and visual)

？ Motivated team player with inner drive to learn and foster the development of others

？ Ability to adapt to new situations in a fast-changing environment

Working experience (in years):

？ +4 years (Bachelor) / +2 (Master) of relevant work experience

？ Experience with autonomous vehicle or advanced driver assist system development such as lane keeping, adaptive cruise control, etc.

？ Experience with in-vehicle networking such as CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet

？ Experience with vehicle ECU calibration

？ High level understanding of various systems needed for self-driving vehicles (sensors, compute, wiring, chassis communication, controls, etc.)

？ Experience in developing vehicle safety critical systems such as powertrain, steering system, brake system, etc.

？ Proven work experience with algorithm design and software development (C/C++) required

？ Deep understanding of system architecture, CPU/GPU/Memory/Storage, everything related to performance optimization

？ Experience with embedded software design and development for automotive, industrial, or aerospace/military applications
