Position: ADAS Development Engineer – Functional Development

We are expanding our autonomous driving/intelligent connected vehicle team in Beijing to bring self-driving cars to Chinese streets as soon as possible. Our technical teams work closely together with our experts at headquarters in Wolfsburg and other autonomous driving teams across the globe. Main goals and objectives:

The core mission of this position is to ensure the operability of vehicles with ADAS functions in the Chinese market. The main objective of this position is to adapt ADAS functions on a parametric level to Chinese road conditions and driving patterns, to increase the functional availability and ensure high operational safety. This engineering position will change the driving behavior and user experience by adapting only the parameters of otherwise fully developed functions and will not develop code or algorithms on its own. He/she will contribute to overall functioning ADAS functions due to the adaptation of functions that were not necessarily developed specifically for the Chinese market (e.g. when the function was developed in Germany).

Your Responsibilities:

The position is responsible for the described scope and tasks within the Group R&D department of Volkswagen Group China.

？ Adapt ADAS functions on a parametric level to Chinese road conditions and traffic behavior to increase the functional availability and ensure high operational safety

？ Analyze and evaluate the operability of ADAS functions in terms of availability and security factors, and identify deviation

？ Develop countermeasures and/or solutions to improve availability, usability and security of ADAS functions through software parametrization

？ Define countermeasure and/or solution concepts to improve availability, usability and security of ADAS functions through hardware adaptation in collaboration with Development Engineers

？ Definition of testing concepts to evaluate the operability of ADAS functions in close collaboration with Test Engineers

？ Support Development Engineers in the creation of technical requirement documents regarding hardware and software adaptations

Our Requirements:

Necessary education:

？ Bachelor’s / Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or equivalent

Personal skills:

？ Very good knowledge of Chinese road conditions and driving patterns in combination with effects on vehicle setup and parametrization (e.g. distance to person in front, braking behavior, …)

？ Understanding of embedded software design and development preferred

？ Structured working style, advanced time management and strong analytical skills

？ Strong abilities in independent, self-organized work, and cross-functional/-entity collaboration

Working experience (in years):

？ 3 to 5 years relevant work experience in an automotive OEM or comparable Tier 1 supplier, preferable in the field of ADAS systems, Vehicle Dynamics & Mechanics

？ Proven experience of ADAS hardware and software, and other vehicle systems such as CAN networks, ECUs, etc.

？ Proven experience of ADAS software parametrization and corresponding effects on vehicle systems such as drivetrain, braking, suspension, steering and tires

？ Experience in structured analysis and evaluation of ADAS functions in terms of availability and security factors

？ Experience in failure analysis with regard to ADAS functions and

？ Experience with vehicle and system testing methodology (vehicle tests, HIL, simulators, etc.) preferred

？ Experience in functional safety (e.g. automotive SPICE and ISO 26262)

？ Experience with vehicles sensor set (ultrasonic, radar, camera) of ADAS functions and adaptation of it in collaboration with functional development team/suppliers

Remarks (Language, IT Knowledge, Certificates etc.):

？ English fluent

？ Chinese fluent

？ Optional/ preferred: German good experience in oral & written

？ Experience in programming languages C, C++, and Python
