Job Summary:
CSA Group has an immediate opportunity for a Technical Advisor Engineer (ESS, Battery & UPS)
Responsibility:
This position will be responsible for providing technical leadership and act as the senior technical lead in UPS, Battery Chargers and Battery Backup Systems among all CSA certification offices including reviewing, assessing, monitoring, training and qualifying staff; providing dispute resolution; resolving technical issues; and providing interpretation of technical requirements. Duties will also include coordinating and participating in standards development work in national and international arenas; liaising with internal and external clients, provided internal and external seminars. Ensure delivery of these services is consistent, and in support of, corporate and divisional values, policies and objectives and enhances CSA’s image as a Global leader in Product Certification. This assignment will require travel as we operate globally.
In this position, you will be acting as the trusted advisor and primary technical resource for certification activities involving batteries, battery charging equipment, battery management systems, energy storage systems and UPS. In addition, providing technical direction and support to staff engaged in certification work will be a primary responsibility along with reviewing, assesses and auditing staff engaged in certification work to ensure technical consistency across the organization.
Participating, under the direction of the Technical Manager, in Canadian, US, bi-national, tri-national and international standards development work is considered essential in this role. Specifically, proactively communicating to certification management and staff the new and revised requirements resulting from the standards development work and any implications the changes might have on current work processes and lab equipment requirements.
Education:
University degree in a relevant technological discipline of engineering and professional registration as a Professional Engineer
Experience:
Ten (10) years relevant CSA or similar certification experience in any of the above product groups or related areas. Ideally, this experience will include five (5) years at the fully qualified Certification Engineer level.
Must have strong working knowledge of related Canadian Standards, US standards and IEC Standards such as CSA 107.3, UL 1778, IEC 62040 series; working knowledge of battery standards UL 2054, UL 9540, UL 1973, UL 1642 and IEC 62133; CSA 107.2 and power supplies IEC 62477-1 would be an asset.
Experience with IECEE CB Scheme programs is preferred.
Skills:
Must have excellent interpersonal, communication (both written and oral), and presentation skills.
Strong leadership skills are essential, as is the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization in a collaborative fashion.
Strong problem-solving, analytical skills and decision making skills are necessary. Must also be flexible and perform well in a team environment. Must be willing to travel globally.
Must have demonstrated competence for the position and commitment to technical excellence.
Must have strong computer skills.
Must have excellent multitasking skills, and be able to produce technical documents such as Notices, Informs, List of Technical Requirements and Technical Information Letters, which are written in a clear and concise manner, and be of the highest technical standards possible.
