BASIC FUNCTION

Development and ownership of the sourcing strategy for assigned materials, and components. Manages all purchasing related functions for business unit including supplier management, cost reduction, quality improvement and support to New Product Development projects. Analyzes changes or new issues in components and materials to reduce total cost and improve quality. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Recruits, develops and manages professional purchasing resources. Responsibilities extend to managing departmental budgets and setting objectives for department. Also for leading global spend coordination of categories unique to assigned business unit.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manage the day to day operations for strategic sourcing. Identify and evaluate critical positions within the team and establish strategies to develop a strong talent pool. Coach and develop talent utilizing documented performance management tools.

2. Drive the sourcing process to secure components and finished goods in the assigned area of spend to ensure competitiveness and to limit risk for Kohler:

- Review purchase requirements with internal customer(s) to develop business needs

- Obtain supplier quotations/proposals on prospective purchases

- Negotiate complex supplier agreements with awareness of the cultural, geographic, and political environment

- Work with the Legal Dept to draft contractual terms and conditions to insure business needs are met and with consideration of business law and intellectual property

3. Develop the sourcing strategy within assigned areas of spend

- Meet with business managers to help identify current and future sourcing needs

- Perform analysis of spend in relation to economic indicators and commodity prices

- Set projected standard costs and department budgets annually

- Identify strategic opportunities for global cooperation among business unit divisions

- Drive total cost reduction programs such as value engineering, payment terms, warehousing agreements, and quality performance improvements

- Utilize cost breakdown details to reduce cost based on design optimization and lean concepts

4. Lead the supplier approval and management process

- Establish and maintain relationships with both supplier's sales contacts and also supplier's management to best serve Kohler's interests (business acumen).

- Visit supplier's manufacturing facilities to conduct supplier evaluations with respect to business practices, process capabilities, and opportunities for continuous improvement

- Direct regular supplier performance reviews and development of improvement plans

5. Lead global product supply base knowledge and linking with purchasing associates worldwide. Understand spend and supplier commercial details and use this information to optimize quality, service, price, and innovation globally for Kohler. Leverage cost breakdowns and should cost models.

6. Implement and maintain comprehensive policy and procedures for all purchasing functions to support an environment that is ethical and free of conflict of interest, ensures compliance with internal approval schedules, and complies with all local, state, and governmental laws and regulations.

7. Interact with cross-divisional and cross regional buyers, supplier quality, materials management, engineering and operations as part of the supplier management and NPD process.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

Business/Technology
Ability to construct and manage complex, sophisticated arrangements, create unique terms & conditions for legal review, and develop negotiation strategies. Understanding of domestic and international business law with working knowledge of intellectual property.

Exhibit skill in developing & managing contingency plans, risk factors, and interdependencies. Exhibit ability to build detailed project plans, including, time, resource requirements, budget and deliverables. Manage multi-location projects by gathering adequate project resources and delivering results.

Interpersonal
Demonstrate professionalism in communicating at all levels. Exhibit sharing information and retaining critical documentation.

Managerial
Capable of leading multi-location projects and marshal adequate project resources. Accurately documents performance for professional development and establishes criteria for levels of performance.
