Group Leader, Fluids and Structures

This position will compensate the chosen candidate at competitive local Shanghai market wage rate, and benefits will be administered based on local Shanghai benefit practices.

Group Leader, Fluids and Structures

Job Description:
? Lead a team of about 10 people responsible for development of tools and technology in the area of aerodynamics, heat transfer, turbomachinery, Aero-acoustics, fluid-structure interaction, structural analysis, advanced manufacturing and related applications.
? Participate as a principal investigator to projects with UTRC program offices or local business units, lead multi-disciplinary teams, identify and champion innovative technologies and capabilities, and serve as a technical resource to group members.
? Develop group vision and strategy, including technology and capability roadmaps in partnership with UTRC program offices and UTC business unit counterparts.
? Responsible for recruiting, hiring, performance assessment, and resource planning for group members.
? Advise group members on competence and career development. Mentor junior staff members.
? Serve as a focal point for fluid flow, heat transfer and structure research with local universities.

Qualifications Required:
? MS or PhD degree in Mechanical /Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field with 8+ year’s professional experience, preferably in an applied research environment.
? Solid understanding of fluid mechanics, heat transfer and structural analysis.
? Experience in the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and/or Structural Dynamics to the development of new technology.
? Demonstrated ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams in both China and USA.
? Experience in leading project teams (3-5 people).
? Fluent in English and Chinese (both written and spoken) and excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
? Expert knowledge with 10+ years’ experience in fluid mechanics, heat transfer and/or structural analysis.
? Record of technical excellence including patents and publications.
? Proven track record in championing innovative technologies leading to program content.
? Deliver to challenging technical objectives through creative problem solving and innovative thinking.
? Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary teams successfully achieving technical objectives under time and budgetary constraints.
