Overview:

The Asia Operations / Business Development Manager role (AM) is based in Shanghai, China and represents an excellent opportunity for a career-minded individual who is an excellent self-starter, enjoys multi-tasking and wants to deliver excellent results with accountability in an entrepreneurial environment.

This role is a career development position best suited for savvy candidates who are interested in professional growth with an innovative and expanding Western company. Reporting to the US based Vice President of Operations, with dotted line connectivity to the company’s CEO, the AM will represent Flat World Holdings Operating Companies in China and beyond. Primary responsibilities will be a combination of operational management and support activities to improve the company’s Asia logistics operations and freight agent relationships, as well as business development strategy execution.

The ideal candidate will have experienced progressive operational career responsibilities (possibly branch management) with some initial, demonstrated sales experience and views the combination of operational experience and strong interest in sales as the next career step.




Flat World Holdings – Asia Operations / Business Development Manager

Requirements:

? Bachelor degree with focus in logistics, transportation management or international business preferred.

? At least 7 years of applicable international transportation industry experience with a) strong understanding of freight forwarding operational practices and b) demonstrated ability to tactically and strategically interact and manage freight forwarders and brokers.

? Business to Business sales or business development experience with demonstrated successful results.

? Friendly, outgoing personality with a focus on excellence and caring about results, comfortable working independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
o Excellent written and verbal English language communication.
o Demonstrated self-starter and creative traits are paramount.
o Preference for professional experience with a foreign company.
o Ability to travel up to 50% of the time incl. some international travel outside of China.
o Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to track project activities / timelines.
o Flexibility to work during off-hours and on some weekends if need be.
o Must be computer literate with MS Office products.
o Other key skills: action and deadline oriented, research skills, thoroughness, general math skills, ability to resolve problems and find creative solutions.
                                   
Responsibilities:

? Management of Asia based freight agent and partner relationships to maximize Flat World’s service excellence and resulting margins: the company’s expectation is that initially about 50-70% of the role’s available time is focused to ensure operational activities are properly supporting solutions for existing customers.
o Real-time operational transportation coordination with agents towards highest service effectiveness. Includes creative problem solving, solution identification, and escalating of daily problems that might occur with shipment transactions.
o Agent / partner relationship management with existing agents, identification, development, and management of potential new agents based on Flat World’s guidelines towards excellent service quality and maximized margins.
o Intentional efforts to develop positive working relationship with all parties by properly representing the company.
o Daily operational support, and improving the company’s Asia logistics operations.

? China business development and sales execution: implement a sales initiative with the company’s support to offer Flat World’s expertise and solutions to potential new customers based in China.
o Identification, sales strategy development, and successful acquisition of new China based customers and related business growth opportunities.
o Successfully secure new sales opportunities identified through US based sales development strategies.
o Includes prospecting, sales pipeline development, closing new opportunities, growing customer sales and expanding customer base.

? The role reports to the US based Vice President of Operations with dotted line connectivity to the CEO. Organizational connectivity will include:
o weekly conference calls with both Sales and Operational teams, weekly one-on-one “snapshot” meetings with VP leaders and CEO.
o monthly scheduled conference call to review mutual progress, confirm strategic priorities, and update on progress and needed resources / assistance.
o quarterly face to face reviews and planning sessions either in Asia or the US to ensure aligned priorities, proper resources provided, expected results and mutual agreement on progress.
