Scope:
Reports to the traffic manager
Essentially, import-export specialists are professionals who coordinate international shipping. They're tasked with tracking shipments, working with clients and categorizing shipments. This profession requires at least a bachelor's degree and 3 years of experience.

Requirements and qualifications:
Aspiring import-export specialists with an associate's degree or bachelor's degree in a business-related field. Applicants who can speak two or more languages are also favored. International trade certificate programs provide additional job preparation with courses that focus on import-export regulations and international trade. Experience in an international trade industry is a major requirement for higher level positions in imports and exports.
An import-export specialist must have customer service and negotiation skills to deal with the demands of overseas and local clients. Must be familiar with the legal requirements regarding importing and exporting shipments, as well as company’s internal procedures. Specialist should also be confident with figures, since they'll have to convert weights, volumes, and currencies for international shipments. Better computer experience, as we are using increasingly automated systems. Written and spoken fluency in English

Roles and responsibilities:
Import-export specialists manage data for international and domestic shipments and provide support for many steps of the transportation process. Work with customs agents, warehouse staff, shipping companies, and clients. Help with shipping, receiving, and record keeping for international/domestic transactions. Most of working day is spent in an office atmosphere as they verify that all documentation adheres to import-export policies and laws. Fownes Brothers established manufacturing facilities in Gloversville and Amsterdam, N.Y. in 1903. In the late 1950’s manufacturing shifted from the US and the Caribbean basin, to the Far East. First came the Philippines in 1959, then Southern China in 1984.
Both facilities are still in operation to this day.
With a growing international business, Fownes established an office in Shanghai in 2002 to address the needs of its global customers. In addition to offering comprehensive sales, merchandising and design services, the Shanghai office coordinates sourcing, quality control, quality assurance, product development, and production logistics for all Asian operations.
