Overview:
The Royal Society of Chemistry has several international offices around the world in addition to its headquarters in the UK. Within China it has two offices in Beijing and Shanghai and currently employs ~20 people carrying out various activities including organising symposia and conferences, visiting universities and industry, publishing and sales. This role, as part of the wider team, will work closely with Publishing, Membership, Digital, Event & Marketing and Sales teams. Projects will include events (visits, workshops, symposia, conferences), membership support and development, student engagement and other activities.
The role will require travel throughout China and occasionally internationally.
What you will be doing:
You will work as a part of the team to develop and manage engagement programmes & activities to support our strategic initiatives in China, in particular in the areas of relationship development and management, scientific events, membership and student engagement activities.
? Building strategic relationships with leading scientists, academic institutions, societies, industry, organisations and government in China in order to increase the RSC’s influence and impact
? Developing new opportunities and activities to engage all levels of researchers efficiently and effectively
? Forming partnerships with chemical industries to promote scientific knowledge amongst industries and academia
? Maintaining strong links with other teams and colleagues within the RSC (Publishing, Science Team, Membership etc) to ensure that synergies are developed and mutual goals are met
? Recommending events (workshops, symposia, conferences and training) by identifying and bringing together key players and funding organisations
? Developing a sustainable plan and a range of activities to engage with students in China
? Project managing activities, managing budgets and timelines, developing priorities, key objectives and milestones, and monitoring delivery against these parameters using KPIs
Key knowledge and skills required:
? Degree in the chemical sciences essential. Higher degree (MSc or PhD) is an advantage
? A good knowledge of the international research environment for the chemical sciences and of current research activities and priorities, funding mechanisms and policies in China
? Ability to deal effectively with senior figures from academic, government, industrial and diplomatic agencies in an international environment
? Ability to work effectively with Corporate partners, to engage them in projects of benefit to their company, the RSC and the chemical science community
? Ability to develop strategic plans, including supporting tactics and control mechanisms
? Good communication and negotiating skills and the ability to make appropriate decisions and take prompt and effective action, if necessary under pressure of time and circumstances, are essential
? Awareness of cultural differences across different countries and the ability to take these into account when devising and implementing activities
? Ability to work under pressure of time and in demanding circumstances
? Good project management skills
? Good budget management skills
? Fluent in English and Mandarin
? A working knowledge of STM Publishing is desirable
