Position Overview:
The Coordinator is responsible for establishing and overseeing the Duke Kunshan University Student Government, Clubs and Organizations, and the Arts and Culture Programs. S/he coordinates and supervises all student related activities and events, including designing and implementing education programs that are arts-based learning through workshops, guest lectures, performances, festivals, cultural events, and skills development to promote a sense of community, and maximize student learning and development. He/she establishes and maintains effective collaborative working relations with faculty, academic program administrators, and student leaders. The advisor should also ensure programs follow Chinese and applicable U.S. laws and regulations.
S/he is part of the Student Affairs team that participates in health emergency on-call rotations after-hours, which includes weekend duty hours. All staff members on duty must stay at the campus Conference Center for after-hour duty. This list of responsibilities is not inclusive of all responsibilities, but is a general overview of expectations for the position. As the campus is developing its Phase II program, additional responsibilities not listed below may be added.

Essential Duties:
1. Duke Kunshan Student Government (DKSG)
? Establishes Student Government that serves and supports the student community.
? Monitors and insures a fair student election process.
? Serves as advisor to the Student Government.
? Promotes interaction and communication between student government and university senior administrators.
? Advises DKSG in developing programs for the campus and the community.
2. Advising student clubs and organizations:
? Develops procedures for launching new student clubs and organizations at Duke Kunshan, including advising students in drafting constitutions, by-laws, and protocols for budget requests and proposals.
? Advises and serves as a resource person to student clubs and organizations.
? Encourages mature thinking and responsible actions that strengthen the organization and the student community.
? Advises and assist student officers to develop programs that will provide educational experiences for student-at-large members and assists them in developing their leadership and organizational skills.
? Trains students in techniques and methods for gathering student feedback.
? Supervises students in planning and promoting campus activities and events; and participates in activities organized by clubs & organizations when needed.
? Meets one-on-one with the club and organization president on a regular basis.
? Takes an active part in the transition of responsibilities between old and new club officers at the end of semester or academic year.
3. The Arts and Culture Program
? Plans, coordinates and promotes arts and cultural programs and events on and off-campus in response to student needs and in keeping with the latest trends
? Books and establishes contracts with artists, designers or other professionals and provides full support to the programs or events (travel arrangement, materials purchasing, payment, etc.)
? Books and manages venues related to those programs
? Develops partnerships with relevant arts, non-profit, private and community partners
? Assists in the development of strategies and policies as well as other matters relevant to programming
4. Administration
? Manages the day to day administrative tasks of interns and student assistants.
? Hires, supervises, and evaluates interns and student assistants
? Designs and manages the bi-weekly student announcement messages.
? Utilizes social media tools such as Website, WeChat to improve communication with students.
? Administers and maintains the DKU Events Calendar pertaining to student activities.
? Coordinates with DKU Communications Director in media coverage and reporting campus events.
? Maintains accurate records of all Student Activities events and Student Government activities (including event proposals, budgets, contacts, contracts, media/publicity, and evaluations).
? Prepares, administers and monitors annual budgets.
5. Collaborates with other staff members in the Student Affairs Office
6. Applies a flexible approach to work, recognizing that there will be some weekend and evening activities that may require attending and helping students in meeting their needs for their activities and events.
7. Performs other duties as assigned
8. University employees' job responsibilities will continue to expand in scope and depth as the University grows in size and complexity in its programs.
Required Qualifications:
? Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field in education, student personnel, and arts, design, event management related programs.
? 2-3 years of experience working directly with college students.
? 2-3 years of experience in developing, managing and supervising high school and/or college clubs and organizations.
? Creative approach to student community building
? Effective verbal and written communication skills in English and Chinese.
? Intercultural competency achieved and demonstrated by having lived, worked, or studied in an international, cross-cultural setting.
? Excellent interpersonal skills, with a desire to work in a team-oriented, dynamic, fast-paced, diverse environment.
? Excellent organization and planning skills.
? Commitment to supporting an innovative and intercultural learning community.
Preferred Qualifications:
? Master’s degree in a relevant field in education, student personnel, and Art & Design, Arts Administration, museum management or a closely related field.
? Professional experience in arts administration at a public or private arts or cultural organization, or equivalent experience
? 3-5 years of experience working directly with college students.
? 3-5 years of experience in developing, managing and supervising high school and/or college clubs and organizations.
? Knowledge of the differences between Chinese and western higher education systems.
? Ability to work with the Student Affairs Learning Assessment Coordinator to evaluate and improve student experience.
